The web content describes a 'choose your own' fiction story where the protagonist is imprisoned without a clear prospect of trial or escape, inviting readers to contribute to the narrative.

Abstract

The provided text is an excerpt from an interactive fiction story titled "Seek and Avenge," which is part of a series called Drabble Story Arc #2. The protagonist is captured and placed in a cell, stripped of possessions, with no means of escape. As time passes, the character's hope dwindles while being provided with minimal sustenance by the guards. The story concludes with an anticlimactic end, but with an open invitation for readers to extend the narrative by submitting their own chapters, thus keeping the adventure alive in a collaborative manner. The story adheres to the drabble format, with each part consisting of exactly 100 words, and encourages fiction writers to participate by providing writing prompts.

Opinions

  • The narrative suggests a sense of despair and hopelessness as the protagonist is trapped in a cell with no trial in sight.
  • The guard's reaction to the protagonist's question about the trial implies a lack of justice or due process in the story's setting.
  • The story's conclusion, "The End," followed by the prompt to potentially continue the story, plays with the reader's expectations and engagement.
  • The invitation to contribute to the story emphasizes a community-driven approach to storytelling, encouraging collaboration among writers.
  • The use of the drabble format challenges writers to be concise and impactful with their narrative additions.
  • The inclusion of writing prompts serves as a resource for writers seeking inspiration for their contributions to the story or for their own creative endeavors.

This is a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition”. The whole thing begins with ‘The Burned Village’. If you want, head back to the previous chapter, “Filling Your Pockets with Gold”, or “Trouble in Town”.

And find out how to contribute to the ongoing story here.

You try to pull free from their grasp, but to no avail. Your number’s up. News of your crimes has spread fast.

Soon you are in a cell, in a ragged smock — your possessions gone.

“When’s my trial?” you ask. A guard smirks, then guffaws loudly and departs.

You look around. There is a stone bench, bars, and a drain. You search, but can find nothing to pick the lock. No loose bars. Only bugs for company.

No hope.

Daily, guards throw in water and crusts of bread, then depart.

There you stay.

Weeks? Months?

You lose track of time.

The End.

(Or is it? If you want to write a way out of this mess, feel free to submit a new chapter!)

This is a collaborative story, with each part (not including choices and blurb) written in a 100-word drabble. Are you a fiction writer? Join us, or check out the writing prompts below for loads of story ideas!
