The Bigscreen Beyond Is the World’s Smallest VR Headset
Pre-orders are being shipped out, but only in the US.
In some of my past chats, I’ve chatted about all kinds of stuff in the virtual reality world. You can find those links below.
But right now, let’s dive into something cool: the Bigscreen Beyond, supposedly the tiniest VR headset on the planet!
Like many VR enthusiasts out there, there’s one pesky issue that bugs many of us. It’s that darn weight of the VR headset — it can turn even the most epic gaming sessions into a neck-straining ordeal.
But hey, guess what? Bigscreen has swooped in to save the day with their new creation, Beyond — a pair of sleek VR glasses that look like they were plucked straight out of the futuristic world of Ready Player One.
Now, here’s the kicker — the Bigscreen Beyond weighs in at a mere 127 grams. That’s right, it’s nearly four times lighter than our beloved Meta Quest 2. And when it comes to size, we’re talking about something that’s just 143mm in length and 52mm in thickness. It’s so compact that you could practically cradle it in the palm of your hand.
So, you might be wondering, “How on earth do they pull off such a lightweight, compact marvel?” Well, the Beyond is equipped with pancake lenses, just like the ones you find in the Meta Quest Pro. These lenses deliver that immersive 3D VR experience without hogging too much space.
And lurking behind those lenses are a pair of MicroOLED displays boasting a grand total resolution of 5,120 x 2,560 pixels. That’s 2,560 x 2,560 pixels for each eye! Plus, they can keep up with the action with a refresh rate of 90Hz.
Now, here’s the real game-changer — the Bigscreen Beyond is all about personalization. When you decide to snag one for yourself, they’ll ask you to submit a 3D scan of your face. Why, you ask? Well, that’s so they can tailor the headset to fit your head shape and interpupillary distance (IPD).
This means you get a snug and comfy fit like never before. But here’s the catch — once it’s set, you can’t change the IPD. So, if you’re thinking of sharing this fantastic gadget with pals, it might be a little uncomfortable unless they have the same face as you.
But let me tell you, I’m totally cool with this if it means I can dive into VR gaming without fumbling around to get comfortable. And the good news is that the Beyond plays nice with SteamVR.
Just keep in mind that you’ll need to grab yourself a Steam VR base station and a couple of Index VR controllers to really get the party started.
Now, let’s talk moolah — the Bigscreen Beyond comes with a price tag of $1,000. Yeah, I know, it’s not exactly pocket change. But if you’re itching to get your hands on one, you’re in luck.
They’re already shipping to all you fine folks in the US of A. As for the international crowd, you won’t have to wait too long; they’re gearing up to send those Beyond glasses your way at the end of the year.
Final Words
So there you have it — the Bigscreen Beyond, a lightweight, personalized, sci-fi-inspired VR gadget that promises to take your gaming adventures to a whole new dimension.
If you’re as stoked as I am, it might just be worth the splurge. Game on, my fellow virtual warriors!
