The 7.00 Update Finally Brings Discord to PlayStation Players
It took a while, but we finally have a confirmed date to look forward to.

The PlayStation 5’s 7.00 update, set to be released on March 8th, 2023, will introduce two significant features to the console:
- Full Discord integration
- The ability to stream PS5 games via the cloud
This was reported by Insider Gaming, with a public beta version of the update expected to arrive in the coming days.
However, the beta version will not include the Discord integration feature for testing and will instead focus on the new ability to stream PS5 games via the cloud.
The streaming feature is said to be exclusive to members of PlayStation Plus Premium, the most expensive tier of the revamped PlayStation Plus.
Sony has had a goal of closely linking the PlayStation and Discord platforms for some time. In May 2021, Sony’s president and CEO, Jim Ryan, announced a partnership with Discord, stating that their teams were working to connect Discord with the social and gaming experience on PlayStation Network, intending to bring the two platforms closer together.
Currently, PlayStation users can link their Discord accounts and display their PSN ID on their Discord profile, which also displays when PS4 or PS5 games are being played.
It’s not yet clear how Discord integration will function on the PS5, but it’s assumed it will be similar to how it operates on Microsoft’s Xbox consoles, which received full Discord integration in September 2022 for all users.
On Xbox, users can use Discord for voice communication and even join Discord servers directly from their console.
I’ve been playing games on my PC with my friends who own consoles for a while, and until now, it’s been difficult for my friends who were forced to use Discord on their phones or laptops.
This is an essential quality-of-life feature that I’m sure many PlayStation players are extremely happy about.
