Opinions

  • Curiosity/Provocative content is favored by the author, who enjoys creating hooks that provoke thought and encourage reader engagement, even if it leads to disagreement.
  • The author values personal storytelling in the Connection category, emphasizing the importance of making readers feel understood and less like transactions.
  • The author recommends a "teacher" voice for Informative/Authority content, a "low-key brat" voice for Desire content, a "poking polemic creator" voice for Curiosity/Provocative content, and a "friendly-non-judgmental" voice for Connection content.

When you start to write online, it’s easy to feel lost in the sea about what to write or what post, or format, go or not, so many people and gurus saying so many things.

“Niche down, don’t niche, do this, do that, this works, this doesn’t”

It ends up getting tiring.

Instead of going down the path of what strategy, niches, styles of writing works or not, which are good or bad,

You should take a look on the kind of content.

When you write online, unless you are writing novels or poetry,

most of your writing will fall into one of these 4 categories:

  1. Informative/ Authority.
  2. Desire.
  3. Curiosity/Provocative.
  4. Connection.

INFORMATIVE/ AUTHORITY

These are the kind of content which you are supposed to show knowledge on a specific subject or niche.

The objective of them is to demonstrate to people you do understand about what you talk about and to make people get informed about it, “you have to reassure yourself”.

An example would be:

“I did [this] and it Is not that hard, You can also do [this] using [your method]”

Normally this kind of content works, for a few reasons:

  1. It speaks to people on a specific topic (niched).

2. Provide social proof (if you don’t have, start building and collecting data)

3. It helps you gain reader’s attention on a determined subject and become a reference.

Other Title Examples:

“Here is how I made my first 300$ Writing online, You Can Too”

“Little John Lost 50lbs in two weeks with this secret”

I believe the best kind of voice in this content is the “teacher” voice,

write as you were teaching.

DESIRE

This is the kind of content to show people the importance of your work, or product you are selling, the objective of this kind as the name says, is to create the desire in people to have whatever you are offering.

For example,

“How can you achieve [solution for audience pain point], in 5 easy steps”

Other Title Examples:

“If your company is suffering [this], then maybe you should get a [professional to solve the problem]”

“Struggling with [pain point/problem]? Try this method then”

This is Kind, you show the need of your work or product.

I believe the best kind of voice for this kind, is the “low-key brat who has something you don’t”,

write as if your solution is the best thing they can have, without telling this directly

CURIOSITY, PROVOCATIVE

This is my favorite, I guess.

They are the kind of content supposed to make people read the headline and think:

“Wtf is this person talking about, is he crazy?”

Normally in this content you write about something in a polemic way, newspapers and magazines are masters of this, the idea of:

“I’m gonna say something with dual interpretations, to polemize and make people fall for the hook”

And then explain myself in the body.

If they disagree, good, i get engagement on the hook.

Other Title Examples:

“5 Ugly Truths About Writing On Medium No One Has The B*lls To Say”

“Here is Why You Don’t Deserve Your Readers, If You Use ChatGPT Or Any AI”

“What No One Tells You, The Reason You’re A Loser And Keeps Failing In Life”.

This kind of content, are supposed to make them mad by reading the headline, and force them to click,

if they agree or not, is up to the comments, pray for them to engage in the comments.

(this is my biggest tip for this kind of content, if you disagree leave a comment down below =])

I recommend using the “poking polemic creator”,

speak in a provocative, a challenging tone.

CONNECTION

And the last kind of content could be resumed by one thing:

Personal Storytelling.

The objective of this kind is to connect with your audience, to make them feel someone understands and has gone through their problem,

that you are not a “solution salesman”, but a person who also suffers,

You want to make them hug you as a friend.

Content which tells personal stories and puts you and your reader in the same shoes walking the same path,

Connect as a brother from another mother.

Other Title Examples:

“5 Things I Learned When I Wanted To Give Up On [whatever you and your readers do] don’t do it”

“How I dealt with [pain point] and how you can also without super secret”

“Here is 3 things I wish all my friends knew about [subject or you]”

The Objective of this content is to make people get closer to you in a personal way.

I believe the best voice for this content is “friendly-non-judgmental”.

If You start to use these 4 kinds of content for your online writing, it’s going to be way easier to create and raise your audience, instead of thinking what niche or this or that.

You just need to organize a posting timeline to variate between these 4 kinds

adapt it to your experience, don’t get too repetitive, and it’s gonna be easier.
