Taking Care of Yourself First Should Be Your #1 Priority
How can you take care of others if you’re burnt out?

What is one thing you are doing today to take care of yourself?
What is one thing you are doing today to take care of yourself?
What is one thing you are doing today to take care of yourself?
Yes, I asked you that three different times.
I needed to underscore the importance of taking care of yourself because I see way too many people not prioritizing their number one asset: themselves!
How can we take care of others when we are not taking care of ourselves first?
Imagine the mom who is so busy running around cleaning the house, doing endless loads of laundry, taking care of her kids, cooking meals, running back and forth to school events, and so on.
Can she do these things well if she isn’t hydrated and energized with healthy food?
Can she deal with screaming kids if her anxiety is through the roof because she didn’t take time to meditate or have some alone time by getting up a little earlier or getting a babysitter (or hubby can watch the kids so mom can have some time to herself)?
When we take care of ourselves first, we are better able to manage the demands of daily life and cope with challenges. We are also more likely to make healthy choices and take care of our physical and mental health in the long term.
Benefits of taking care of yourself first:
Physical health:
- Improved energy levels

- Reduced risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes
- Better sleep quality
Mental well-being:
- Reduced stress and anxiety
- Improved mood and emotions
- Increased resilience and coping skills
- Stronger self-esteem and confidence

It’s important to find self-care activities that you enjoy and that fit into your lifestyle.
As with any new habit (yes, self-care is a habit to build), start with a few small changes and gradually build up the routine over time.
Remember, taking care of yourself first is not selfish.
It’s essential for your overall health and well-being.
