Take a Walk with Your Body…
A Vagabond Voices writing and living prompt.

Do not forget that you are body, stable state and liquid sifting, solid fleeting light and shadow, footprint on mud and mud on sole, you set out: a step, then the other and nothing is as you left it. I wonder, when you stepped out, if you forgot to exist, forgot everything except the in-out breath on trembling blades of spring and the rhythm of strides over land. Did you remember? You are also flesh.
I believe in creative seasons and, to me, this is the season of the body.
Every year, I like to come around a kind of circle that starts with a deep winter of introspection and going within and then wakes in the spring to the fact that (YES!) we are also bodies.
And this body — yours, mine. How easily neglected.
And how central to our creativity.
In our writing group last month, one of our writing prompts was simply to
- Ask ourselves a question: big or small. Maybe write it down, or whisper it into some dark corner of yourself.
- Engage in some movement. Something repetitive, something silent. Walking comes to mind. Others I know love to cook, or iron, crochet, or paddle, or sand until the surfaces are smooth and there are no thoughts clinging. Do this movement without words.
- Watch the way the world changes underfoot, or under your busy hand…and empty mind.
- Come back and write about it.
You may find perspective, you may find a poem…or just a better place to be.
Wherever this experience takes you, bring something back to show us.
A wisp of a poem, a reflection, a snapshot…your musings.
Or keep it a secret. Sometimes that’s beautiful too.
Happy writing, happy movement.
And enjoy remembering you are also
Body.
