Curry Sauce on Chips

Recipe memory flavour prompt response

Imagine in the pic above, Chunky chips and curry sauce, this is the best pic I could find.

Friday night, was a night to look forward to as a kid growing up in a family with not that much. Four of us kids, two boys two girls, myself the elder of the tribe, ha!

Dad worked as a highly skilled baker and confectioner while Mam looked after us during the day. Mam was also a skilled confectioner but gave it up to rear us kids.

Both Irish Catholics, strict as you like, still we turned out not too bad. I, for one, am grateful, put me in good stead throughout my life.

My elder sister and I were allowed to watch classic late-night Horror movies preceded by our weekly food treat, curry sauce on chips enjoyed by us all, bought from the local Chinese takeaway, a savoury smell from the Orient staying with us for the rest of our lives,

Opening the wrapping paper in anticipation with its own distinct smell heated up from its contents, pouring delicious curry sauce from its own tub over chunky salted chips, two flavoursome delights, smells infused together, absolute heaven for kids only allowed chips once a week!

That’s not all; Dad would bring home bloomer loaves on a Friday, curried chips and fresh bread! Washed down with a cup of hot strong tea, pure heaven at its finest.

My younger sister and I still buy chips and curry sauce when together after a few jars at the pub; it’s a rare occasion but we still enjoy this family favourite minus Dad’s fresh homemade bread. Sliced bread from the packet just doesn’t cut it.
