My favorite Medium writers and why

I was inspired by a post written by Rui Alves encouraging Medium writers to amplify the voices of other writers. I’ve limited this post to 1/2 dozen writers who’ve given this reader an appetite for their words. Since there are many more and new ones popping up, this may become a series.
I’ll begin with Douglas Lim, who surprises me with poetry I understand and adore. His mastery of words is impressive. When I read his work, it’s like watching an old black-and-white movie that provides more drama and song than a loud explosion of shiny technicolor. This is true in his other writings as well. His expressions to God are always powerful reads. And did I mention humor? See what I mean? He tackles an array of genres. Here is just one example of his work.
Dawn Ulmer is another favorite Medium writer. She seems to know just what I like to read. It’s amazing what we learn about each other as we read words on our screens. I’ve learned she loves God and lives grateful for all He has done. She is a great photographer and supplies all or most of her own photos for her writing. I look forward to her stories and photos on the Amish lifestyle. She does an excellent job sharing backstories and tidbits with historical value. And her devotionals place you at the feet of God. Here is one example of her writing.
Next up is one of my biggest Medium surprises, Michele Maize. We are so much alike and yet so different. I am old enough to be her grandmother, but don’t tell anyone. This young, devoted mother is jam-packed full of life. The coolest thing is her determination to share that light and energy with others. Since we are both in recovery, the stories she writes on addiction are my favorites. When you read her work you know that in her heart she is pulling for you to wake up to a new way of living. I should also give a nod to the stories of her travels and life as a young mom (she doesn’t think of herself as a young mom, but I do). They are great as well. Here is one example of her work.
Next up, in my random order, is Annelise Lords. Holy Moley, this gal is productive! For all those who feel like they got left out when the creativity juice was handed out, it’s because she got at least ten extra shares. Her artwork is all original and amazing. Often times she creates her art with flowers (you’ll just have to check it out for yourself). It’s hard to pinpoint a favorite in her writing because she writes quite a variety. Each story is always interesting. Coming from Jamaica, her culture brings a unique viewpoint. I think I am most fond of the stories that serve up a hearty message that she sneaks into dialogue. If you read her work, you know what I mean. Here is an example.
Sadly, my next favorite Medium writer, Don Drewniak, announced he will be quitting Medium at the end of this month. I won’t go into that as it is not mine to discuss. I will say Medium is losing one of the greats. I have not read one piece of his work that I didn’t love. He is funny and delightful. Don is dedicated to entertaining his reader and he always hits a home run.
My last mention is Elizabeth Emerald, the Queen of words. I’m serious, she is a word wizard. When you read her work you have to stop and stroll through her garden of word choices. I don’t know her that well yet, but can already tell you she is generous and helpful to other writers. If you struggle with correct grammar you need to follow her for concise bits of help that are fun to read. Elizabeth’s work makes you think, go deep, and sometimes beyond.
Here is an example of her work.
Conclusion
Our written words are like pollen. They travel from reader to reader landing in places waiting for inspiration.
