Switzerland and the Toblerone City of Zermatt
This little town is just magic

Have you ever tried Toblerone? It’s that delicious chocolate with a mountain that portrays a bear on its logo. Well, I have visited the mountain. No bears though, thank God.
This is my third piece about my trip to Switzerland in 2019. My wife and I spent our honeymoon there, and I felt the need to write a series of texts telling the whole experience.
On this one, I will talk about the town. What a beautiful and cozy town this is.
Meet Zermatt
Zermatt is located in the South of the country, at the foot of Switzerland’s highest peaks. It has a population of 5,800 inhabitants and is classified as a town by the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
My wife discovered this city by chance while looking for places for our honeymoon, and what a beautiful surprise it was. We took a train from Visp to Zermatt, and the view was just breathtaking.
When we arrived and got off the train, we were stunned by the station. It has flowers on every window, and the architecture is a mix of old buildings and new ones.

I usually tell my friends whenever they ask me about Switzerland, that it looks like a movie set. I keep waiting for someone to come and dismantle everything to give place to a Vikings movie. It's just too perfect.
The magic of a small town
I’ve never been a fan of big cities. I’ve been to Milan, Berlin, São Paulo, and they’ve got their perks, but there’s nothing like the atmosphere of these places with a church, a town square, and the cute train station that you arrive in.
We walked around to see the people and the places. Like I said before, it’s crazy how it looks like a movie set that was built. There is a beautiful lake that crosses the city with water from a color I had never seen before.
You can know the entire city by walking for 25–30 minutes. We spent 05 days in Zermatt, but we weren’t able to see everything we wanted. I mean, we saw it but seeing is different than experiencing the city.
There’s a bunch of coffee houses and restaurants we couldn’t visit and hiking places we’ve missed. We’ll have to go back there pretty soon.
One of my favorite things in Zermatt was when we walked around with no plans at all. We would see a coffee place and stop by and get a cup of coffee, or we would find a bookstore and buy a book in German — which I don’t speak — just for the fun of having a book from Switzerland. Or the day we walked a few minutes to get a leaf from a specific tree and take it to my aunt as a souvenir.
This may seem worthless if you do not like to enjoy those little moments in life. I call them quality time. It’s easier to experience it in a more peaceful place.
We loved the idea of walking around the city so much that my wife took it to a whole other level. We went out dressed as bride and groom. Is that crazy?
Well, that’s a story for my next Switzerland piece. Stay tuned for more.
Thank you for reading.
