Switzerland — The Most Wonderful Place on Earth
The country that looks like a movie set

Last year, my wife and I had the best trip of our lives. I am from Brazil, and it was my first time traveling abroad. My wife had traveled to the US several times before, but not me.
We arrived in Italy, and then went to Switzerland. On this trip, we also visited Germany and Czechia. I loved all four countries, but I want to write a bit about Switzerland — which was our favorite.
If you’re reading this from Switzerland, let me just tell you that you have no idea how lucky you are. I’m sure there are problems there but from what I saw it’s a lot less than in the rest of the world.
Why Switzerland?
We started planning our wedding at the beginning of 2019, and the first thing we decided was where our honeymoon would be. We thought about Greece at first, but I have no idea how my wife presented me with the chance of going to this particular expensive country that we went to.
I mean, check out this exchange rate on the day I’m writing this: $1,00 (Swiss Franc) = R$5,84 (Brazilian Real)
It’s freaking expensive.
We decided to spend a few days in Europe, but the peak of the honeymoon would be in Zermatt, the most beautiful city I have ever seen.

Train, Cows, Mountains, Beautiful Houses
We met a Brazilian woman on the train, and she explained several things about the country we had no idea about. One thing I’ll never forget is that if you see a water fountain, you can drink the water, it’s always cold and clean.
During the trip — by train — we saw such beautiful landscapes with beautiful mountains, waterfalls, lakes, cows with bells on their necks. It felt like we were on a train to heaven.
The Arrival
We arrived in the middle of the afternoon at a beautiful train station with flowers all over it. I got off the train, and we started walking towards the hotel electric car in the parking lot. They were very punctual and extremely polite. We headed to the hotel, checked in, and went upstairs to our honeymoon suite.
One important thing to mention is that my wife and I don’t like huge parties. We decided to have a small ceremony to spend less on the wedding and focus on our trip. I know that many people were a little disappointed about not having been invited to it, but there was nothing to be done. Getting married is very expensive in Brazil.
That was our choice, and I can live well and happy with it. Everyone we loved was there.
The Honeymoon Suite
We opened the door, and the room was just perfect. It felt like those movie bedrooms filled with roses and chocolate. But then I went to the window and looked outside. I was in shock. I just couldn’t believe my eyes.
I can’t describe it so I’ll show you.

Yes, this is the Matterhorn. For the next five days, I would wake up with that view on my window. A mix of respect, excitement, tears, goosebumps, I don’t know. It’s hard to explain the feeling of something you never thought would be possible to happen, and yet, it did.
We enjoyed the view and the room very much if you know what I mean.
We had so many great times in that city. It was just five days, but we lived some of the best days of our lives. We had a photo session dressed in our wedding outfits, went to an Anglican church, I saw snow for the first time… There are a lot of stories that I am still going to tell here.
But I wanted to focus on the experience of meeting this amazing place. The first moments, you know? The feeling of being in a place that looked almost fake because it was so perfect.
I live in Brazil, and it’s mostly hot, which I hate. The weather in Zermatt was pleasant. People were so friendly and looked so happy.
I remember going to a bar where there was an amazing rock band playing, and they also had a delicious beer.
Final Thoughts
My first trip abroad was in Switzerland. I think it will be hard to have a greater one, right? I have to carry on with traveling as soon as this chaos end, which I’m hoping will end soon.
If you ever have the chance to travel to Switzerland, don’t miss the chance of getting to know such a magical place.
