Swedish Scientists Discover Writers on Medium Deserving More Followers
Swedish study confirms the “boost gap” is real
Wednesday, 19 April 2023, Mediumtown. In a mindblowing publication, scientists from the prestigious Swedish Academy (of Literature) revealed that many writers on Medium don’t have the number of followers they deserve.
“We were as shocked as you,” said Lars Svedberg, Professor of Literature at the Swedish Academy (of Literature), “One would assume Medium’s algorithm picks up interesting writing and distributes it on the platform.”
Boost gap
According to Svedberg, the diverse team of scientists also discovered that fiction writing gets less visibility than terrible self-help advice that isn’t grounded in personal experience.
The Swedish researchers named the phenomenon the “boost gap” after their research showed that Medium doesn’t go further than boosting writing about fiction writing. Here are a few writers highlighted by Svedberg and his team.

Ralph Serpe
The Swedish study discovered Ralph Serpe when he knocked at the door of The Fiction Writer’s Den. He joined Medium in March 2023 and debuted with his captivating story “The Escape”.
At the end of the story, Ralph Serpe revealed that he used ChatGPT to find loose ends in his plot, showing an example of how writing AI can be used to assist fiction writing.

Mojave Green
Mojave Green, a prolific writer of choose-your-own-adventure stories, joined Medium in September 2022. With 66 followers, Mojave Green is punching below his waistline, considering his intriguing and well-crafted adventures.
Svedberg and his team advise reading his stories for their health benefits. “They will bring your pulse up a notch,” explained Svedberg, “simulating the health benefits of a fast 30-min walk.”

J.C. Lovero
Another Medium newcomer is J.C. Lovero, who joined the platform in March 2023. According to the author, he writes in the cracks of his life. Luckily, he doesn’t hide his writing in some cracks but shares it with the world.
The fact that J.C. Lovero has won short story awards in the past shows in his writing. Since joining Medium, the author has ensured a steady supply of new stories and contributed to the choose-your-own-adventure community.
