DEPRESSION

Supporting John Fetterman Can Be a Valuable Lesson

But Fox News frauds call Fetterman’s depression a weakness

Fox News’s Tucker Carlson says Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman is unfit to serve in the Senate because of Fetterman’s recent mental health diagnosis. I submit that Carlson is unfit to be a human being.

Carlson, one of many news lackeys for Fox News owner and chief cretin, Rupert Murdoch, has his own agenda: ratings, and his master’s agenda, keep viewers’ eyes on the network and keep advertising dollars coming in. Carlson would sell his soul and give the devil a reacharound to stay on the air and put money in his pocket.

Carlson’s Fox News comrade, Laura Ingraham, said Fetterman’s supporters should be ashamed of themselves for urging Fetterman to continue his run for Senate. After taking a breath, Ingraham took a moment to blame Fetterman’s wife, Gisele Barreto Fetterman, for pushing her husband to continue his senate campaign. Ingraham is as full of shit as Carlson.

Surprisingly, Fetterman’s supporters include Texas Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn.

“Heidi & I are lifting John up in prayer. Mental illness is real & serious, and I hope that he gets the care he needs,” Cruz tweeted.”

Twitter screen grab

Cornyn told the Associated Press that the Senate “can be arduous. So I’m sure if somebody is not up to 100% then it’s especially tough, so I wish him well.”

I can tell you about depression. I was diagnosed with major chronic depression after finally reaching out for assistance.

I’ve written about this matter many times. It sucks to go through life feeling like the Sword of Damocles is hanging over your head, just waiting to get close enough to do permanent damage.

But the more people like Fetterman and me, should he choose to, and so many others, the stigma attached to mental health will finally wane.

Years ago, the gay community was pushed into a one-size-fits-all closet locked from the outside. It took decades for human beings to be accepted by others based on nothing more than who they loved. How fucking stupid is that?

There is a road to recovery, but it changes lanes like a highway. You don’t know when you’ll hit a bump or pothole that can fuck your day up. You will feel completely lost and have no idea what happened to crash your ass back down to earth.

It happens to me almost daily, despite the medication I take to ease my depression. And any length of time without that medication will bring the walls crashing down. My psychiatrist prescribed bupropion when I first sought help. The fog that lifted from my brain was an incredible feeling.

Not only was I holding that fucking sword, but I also hoped Damocles would return so I could hold it over his head. Dick.

The stigma is still there. I would urge people not to shut up. Be loud and fucking proud. Talk about depression in large groups and small. If schools give you the green light to talk to students, please do so. If you’re a high school or college student, discuss depression with classmates.

Sadly, there will always be someone who doesn’t care about your problems. “My life is perfect, so fuck you.”

To which I say, watch the news. Understand what can and does happen when you push someone too far. The consequences can be deadly.

I wish John Fetterman and his wife, Gisele, all the best for the future.
