Sunday Supper
Creating an abundance of togetherness, one meal at a time

Abundance comes in many forms, do not limit your abundance in trying to control how it will flow; just know that it will come. -Shelly Sullivan
As of yesterday, Sunday is now a day of culinary creation here in our house. We absolutely love food. It is our hobby, and it is our joy. Last night’s meal was our first foray into Sunday suppers, something my husband created. He thought it would be fun to cook dinner together on Sundays with our son. We each take turns picking recipes and creating menus.
The most beautiful part of the meal was the making of it. It was fun for me to overhear my husband and son chatting while making the soup. Learning skills and sharing a conversation, that is what cooking is all about. On my 100-day journey studying abundance, I love to see all of the ways overflow shows up in our life. Yesterday, it was an abundance of food along with togetherness.
We chose to make pozole, a hominy soup from Mexico that is traditionally made with chicken and pork. The best part is that when serving the soup, you add lettuce, radish, avocado, oregano, and fresh lime juice on top. It is a delicious one-pot meal with condiments. I know it could be made into a vegetarian dish as well, creating a broth with mushrooms and then adding tofu when serving. In fact, my husband added tofu and kimchi to his pozole last night.
On the side, my son and I made cream biscuits. It was delightful watching him come up with a new way to use a whisk to combine the dry ingredients he was creating a mixer! He then kneaded the dough with his hands and cut the biscuits into squares. The final step was brushing butter on top. He was very proud when they came out of the oven.

I love how this meal created an abundance of conversation and activity. A lot of the activities we enjoy in our family tend to be solitary, like reading, writing, creating art, or playing certain video games. Cooking together creates an opportunity for us to unite in the common cause of a delicious meal. I love how we all allow each other to have our own space and time. However, from time to time, we do things as a unit to create a special connection.
This coming Sunday, it shall be my turn. I have picked some elements of a traditional British afternoon tea to bake and cook together. I miss going out for afternoon tea, so we will create it at home to enjoy together. I can get out our fanciest plates and tiered servers to create the ambience of a proper tea service. Abundance truly means creating joy for yourself and your loved ones in any way that you can. Sunday suppers are here for us so that we can gather around and share of ourselves. I plan on sharing extras from our meals with others as well; sharing shows you care and creates a warmth of love and friendship.
My prayer and my intention for you is that you find a way to enjoy togetherness, no matter how small gatherings in your home are this year. If you are alone, go ahead and create beautiful meals for yourself, and drop off extras with friends. They will appreciate and love that you thought of them, and they will sense the beauty in the food you bring.
Day #26: How can you create togetherness in a creative way this winter?
