Summer Adventures Ahead

I’m going on a two-month long camping trip

Anyone who was reading my stories last summer will know my family and I absolutely love camping. Every year we go on a fairly long road trip, camping from one province to another.

In 2018 and 2019, we travelled and camped from Manitoba to Ontario and back on 3-week trips.

My husband was with us for about half the days of those trips, but had to return to work earlier, so a significant part of the road-tripping was just my son and I, who was 5 and 6 years old at the time.

It could have been a disaster… but we rocked it! We had so much fun, and my son is a fantastic camper.

In 2020 and 2021, Covid kept us closer to home, but we still enjoyed another 3 weeks of camping around Manitoba.

2022

It’s been a long couple of years. There has been a pandemic ongoing for well over two years, and we had the worst winter in decades, complete with numerous blizzards, whiteouts, and power outages. This Spring has brought major flooding to many communities.

We’re all ready for a summer full of adventures.

I went camping earlier this month, turning my birthday weekend into a 6-day trip. This was mid-May. It snowed on my birthday. Snow. White flakes of cold, wet, slush from the skies.

This isn’t the first time we’ve had snow in May, but it has been a very long time.

On my most recent birthday adventure, I met a new friend. I was heading into the campground washrooms when I saw her.

She had beautiful orange hair and a darling smile. She wore a blue dress.

She was less than two inches tall and made of plastic.

Literally.

Friends, meet Jillian.

She loves camping, reading, and wine… and sometimes she has a little too much, but she’s a lot of fun. I met her the weekend of May 14–15 at the campground.

I met her the weekend of May 14–15 at the campground. If you’re the parent of the child looking for their Playskool toy, please feel free to contact me privately with your mailing address and where it was lost. If she belongs to your child, I’ll send her home!

Until then, Jillian is going on some amazing adventures. We’re going to road-trip all the way from Alberta through Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and into Ontario.

Our new friend is going to travel with us this summer and I’ll share the highlights here.

Happy travels!
