Substack Took My Newsletter Down After Just Two Days

So, yeah.

We all know that something changed here on Medium at the beginning of this week. My earnings plummeted by 90% despite the read ratio going up, follower counts are growing, and engagement is pretty decent too.

You can’t help but notice the disappointment. Every article I read, has a strange vibe to it. I can’t help but feel the frustration, sadness, and confusion.

Anyhow. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. I’m just going to go with it.

It is what it is, and like the quote says: “Stop focusing on what you can’t change, and instead focus on what you can.”

We can’t change the algorithm, and neither can we do anything about earnings. But that doesn’t mean we should just give up and settle for what it is.

So after reading many Medium members’ articles about Substack, I felt adventurous and set up my own account over on the other side.

I wrote about it in this article.

Everything was going great, until.

I woke up yesterday morning to a message from Substack to say that my publication has been removed from public view.

‘How intriguing’ — I thought. Of course, without hesitation, I quickly contacted the Helpdesk. As it turns out, my new publication raised suspicion due to high traffic.

This was down to one of my pins attracting a few too many clicks on Pinterest. The scam police noticed unusually high activity and blocked my account.

While I do think that this is great. Protecting others is a priority. I find it utterly disgusting that without reading any of my articles and checking where the traffic was coming from, they automatically blocked me.

If I was relying on this platform solely, and didn’t know any better — this could potentially create some big problems.

My advice to you dear friend. Invest in getting your own spot on the World Wide Web. Stop renting and buy your own little land where you can build your community, and high traffic to your website is valued instead of banned.

Thank you for reading and I hope everyone is having a great day.
