My Name

It’s totally made up…well sort of …I married into it and its short for my birth name and doubled up because of the duality of my personality:

• I’m Gemini (June 19th)…so I’m a twin within
• I’m bipolar…so I’m hot and cold emotionally
• My children are black AND white
• I’m from 2 places born in Brooklyn raised in the Caribbean
• Where I was raised have 2 identities, British and Irish

And Finally

• I have 2 names :

1) Jah Jah (you hear that a lot in reggae music) It means God short for Jehovah but again…it’s short for:

2) My birth name I’m Janelle Brandt, my father was famous on the island I grew up on and I didn’t like it. “I grew up in the Caribbean and moved to New York. Some people move to New York to be famous but I moved here to be anonymous.”

Janelle is nicer than Jaja but Jaja is a spiritual gangster that protects her.

Janelle is the introvert, Jaja is the ‘extra-vert.’

Jaja writes the things Janelle is afraid to tell.

Janelle is sweet and cares what people think, Jaja is blunt, crass and doesn’t give a f*ck what people think or do.

Jaja and Janelle argue all the time but they are best friends. When you read me, you can sometimes tell who's writing. For instance, it was Jaja who wrote this but it was Janelle who was embarrassed and edited it:

I like to write about God, sex, money and poetry.

I write because I’ll go nuts if I don’t. I’m ADHD bipolar without meds, & a bit of a schizoid personality, So this makes me a wanderlust mind and an obsessive beast. Writing helps me get rid of all that excess energy.

My favorite thing to do is to get drunk in my car and dance to Caribbean Music turned up to the max with glitter on my lips. I also love to read, get inspired then write.

Edited: I quit smoking and drinking and am now obsessed with copywriting

My favorite people are my extended family, *husband (edited: we are separated no) , 2 sons and daughter who I had as a teenager:

We dance around to my 13-year-old’s weird artsy, poetry /music:)

My strength is that I’m a people lover My weakness is that I’m a people pleaser And I procrastinate.

Edited: I was just informed that I’m a top writer in LGBTQ and Parenting. I don’t why the hell that happened. I think my mental messiness is what’s gives me a fun unique voice and way of viewing this nasty beautiful world.

Although Medium gave me a Top writer badge in Parenting and LGBTQ; It’s very difficult for me to stick to one niche but if I were to pick one, it would be in the genre of ‘self-improvement.’ My life is packed with exciting and disturbing true stories that happened to me.
