REGENERATIVE FUTURE

Minimalism gives us the utmost freedom

My own story is one of trying to get rid of feelings of guilt. Guilt and shame are the most paralyzing emotions of all and I’m a changemaker. So paralysis is something I can’t use in my life.

My search has been one of how to live a loving, purposeful life. Be positively impactful in my being and leave enough space for other humans and other species to live their lives in their own way.

But that’s not an easy feat in this world where consumption is the norm and even basic needs give us shitloads of pollution and waste. And the more I studied sustainability and regeneration, the more guilt and shame crept into my heart.

So, for me, the big question became:

“How can I walk my talk?”

And tada… my solution has been to make my life simple. Extremely simple. I trained my mind to get rid of my debilitating thought-overload. I felt my emotions deeply and let go of them. And I got rid of most of my stuff.

Adventure and Freedom

The result? A much lighter life in which money and stuff didn’t control me anymore. I managed to free my mind to unleash adventure and freedom. I attracted big love and became more and more the changemaker I really wanted to be.

Without guilt and shame.

Realizing that we’ll always be hypocrites when the human systems aren’t changed. But also realizing that this is no excuse not to do whatever I can do to make space for other humans and other species.

My life’s journey made me explore my comfort boundaries as well. I’m a freelancer living in a very expensive country. A normal, comfortable house is not within our reach at the moment. And I feel for all others who have the same predicaments. Poverty. Insecurity. Depression because of it.

But I really hope that people in these situations will turn on the light switch and see how all this discomfort and hardship in life can make you grow as human beings. And I would like to give all comfortable people a light switch to show you that hoarding stuff is keeping you in a golden cage.

Turn on the light switch and stop living in a golden cage

We are free birds. We have wings. We should spread them. Not clipping them and live in cages…

Abundanism

Minimalism has become a trend. Often out of necessity, but also because of sustainable and trendy living. However, I think the word minimalism is completely wrong. Minimalism sounds limiting. Whereas making space in our lives for all good, immaterial things to emerge is something to celebrate.

Minimalism with stuff gives us optimalism of money, time, and freedom. And that’s called ‘abundanism’ in my dictionary. Change the lens on life and you will feel completely different.

Stuff kept me locked in my memories. And they are connected only to my past. Personally, I don’t want to live my life in the past. Whenever I learned from a past event, I store the memory as a beautiful dot in my brain and move on.

Sometimes these beautiful seeds flourish again for a bit. Triggered by smell, or by music. But my true space in life is for the present day. I want to live every minute, every day, every week to the full. Experience, feel, enjoy.

Minimalism with stuff gives us optimalism of money, time, and freedom. And that’s called ‘abundanism’ in my dictionary

And I also need space for my changemaker work. We need to unleash a better future than the one we have today. So that takes up my head-brain, my heart-brain, and my gut-brain. I don’t have space for stuff and paralyzing memories. I don’t have time to be stuck in my past.

I need to move and create ripples…

Today, I read the comments to my stories, and one of them stood out. Julian Dumitrascu sent me a link to a youtube video that made me laugh out loud. Let me share it with you. It’s all about stuff. And hoarding. And freedom.

And it shows me again why I like humor. Humorists give us a perspective on life that can really induce change. Watch George Carlin and laugh out loud as I did. And then start to be radical in your life.

Throw away the stuff you don’t need for your present-day life. Only keep a few beautiful, useful and durable items. Choose items with multiple functions so you don’t need so many. Don’t buy new stuff. Whenever you need something in the future, it’ll come on your path or you can borrow it somewhere…

Choose items with multiple functions so you don’t need so many

After watching George, it might become a bit easier to stop buying new stuff you don’t need. And get rid of all the clutter in your life and your mind.

After watching George, it might become a bit easier to allow your valuable stuff to get a new owner. Bring it to the second-hand shop. Allow new people to attach new memories to nice stuff so you can move on…

Takeaways

  • Attachment to stuff keeps you in your past. Your time can be spent on enjoying the present and unleashing the future instead
  • Stuff clutters your life. We can instead be balancing money, time, and freedom
  • Adventure awaits us when we stop being stuck and move on…
