Spring’s Treasure is Vibrant Uplifting Irresistibly Fresh and Beautiful
The DEP Spring Contest

Spring, what a glorious time of the year! The rebirth of sustainable plants and animals and a new beginning. Those long, cold, dark winter days and nights are gone, and the daylight hours are extended.
You can now enjoy time outside with the freshness all around you. It makes you feel like singing and dancing. The sun shines but not too warmly because summer will bring those temperatures. People emerge from many months of being cooped up inside.
Many fresh fruits and vegetables can be enjoyed in season. They are found in abundance at the local grocery, or the neighborhood produce stand. People plant new gardens, attend farmers’ markets, and go on camping trips.
Animals give birth to newborn babies and share their exuberance with the world. The “newbies” are learning life lessons from mom and dad as fast as they can. Animals young and old have come out of hibernation or hiding and are wandering about. Trees and flowers begin to bud and bloom, they display their beauty everywhere.

The snow begins to disappear. The yard goes from being snow-covered and icy to brown and tired looking. Then spring brings out its best and the yard turns fresh and green. People are inspired and energized in the outdoor environment.
Spring is the time when planting new plants, bushes, and trees happens. Tulips bloom and cherry trees blossom bringing their attractiveness for all to see and experience. Butterflies can be seen flying through our yards and gardens with their enchantment.

For photographers of nature and scenery, this time of year offers views not seen any other time. Beautiful landscape photography is full of bloom.

Spring in the mountains is a special time because everything is so fresh and vibrant. Hiking just opened trails allows you to listen to the birds, and view the beautiful wild plants, trees, and other wildlife.

The birds have returned from migration. They appear happy and chirp wildly as they share their beautiful song. The geese honk their hello and the ducks quack as they fly overhead to enjoy their spring, summer, and autumn homes.
It’s a true symphony of audible uniqueness. Birds appear at backyard feeders; it is so good to see them again. They too have babies, and you can watch as they begin to teach those youngsters how to fly.

People are wearing lighter clothing and open-toed shoes. This keeps them cooler and more relaxed. Baseball, football, and soccer teams are seen plying their skills as they prepare to do battle on the fields.
Those not interested in sports can enjoy the outdoors by hiking, running, walking, biking, going to the beach, just being outside and so much more.
The sun shines longer and brings the much-needed vitamin D with it. This keeps us healthy. Spring in all its glory is bound to bring happiness.
For people living in colder climates, just knowing that the next snowstorm is not right around the corner is enough to lift spirits. It positively affects how people think and the way they treat themselves and others.
Windows in our homes can be opened to enjoy the fresh air. People who work indoors can begin to enjoy the outside more because it is still light after they have worked all day.
Spring is a time when many people choose to declutter their lives and their homes. It can be seen as a way of clearing your mind as well as making use of additional space without the bother of having to move things around.
No longer needed or not used items are donated to Goodwill organizations. Food pantries are restocked. We experience the side benefit of contributing unneeded items to others. This decluttering gives us a fresh start and we can feel good knowing that we are helping other people too.
At mealtime, we can enjoy eating outdoors in the mild temperatures, at home, in a park setting, or at our favorite outdoor venue. Restaurants often serve meals outside.
When we eat at home or in a park, enjoy the outdoor splendor, listen to the birds singing, spread a picnic blanket, barbeque, or grill our meals and allow the kids to play outdoor games.
Holiday Events
The Easter holiday happens in spring, families spend quality time together, hold easter egg hunts for children, consume sweets and just enjoy being together.
April Fool’s Day is another holiday that comes at this time of the year. This holiday offers us the opportunity to play practical jokes with each other and have a bit of lighthearted fun.
Other reasons to love spring include no more dry skin, no more winter blues, and no more winter belly. For people who love fashion, it is the time of year when things change, bringing bright colors into our world.
The rain showers at this time of year bring freshness to everything, the smell of the warm rain and the sound it makes hitting the rooftops and the pavement is special. The sunsets are the most breathtaking of those that we can enjoy all year.
Other outdoor activities during spring are outdoor concerts and movies, kite and drone flying, canoeing and kayaking, swimming, stargazing, festivals, and scenic drives.
Enjoy all that Spring has to offer. You will be happier and glad that you took the time to do so. Have fun and be happy.
