Springing into action
I love a good writing prompt; something that springs me into action (forgive the pun, I’m excited to write).
What could be more exciting than writing about Spring? There are so many positives arising like a spring to this word that it makes me feel a bit fizzy with excitement.
Springing into life, I ponder what spring is all about for me. My initial musings were to write about how this season brings a sense of hope and pure delight as nature springs into life after months of sleep. I feel genuine excitement when the trees flourish to their beautiful deep green shade.
Spring Nature
Nature brings us a little promise of summer on the horizon, and if we are lucky here in Scotland, we can put our faces up to the first warm rays of the sun. The mischievous spring lambs are born; I hear their high-pitched bleating in the distance. I can walk past their fields and watch them play; as they mature they quickly learn to escape their fences, running off down the path. My dog, Bobby desperate to chase in hot pursuit.
Fresh water
Spring brings to my mind thoughts of fresh water. The ebb and flow of water remind me of what we are. I intuitively know that keeping our inner waters fresh and pure with spring water gives us a sense of springing to life. Spring water is flowing, pure energy, just like when we are in flow with our being.
Spring energises
I think of my youth when my sister and I would jump on my parent’s bed. We were reprimanded for breaking the springs (we never did), and jumped anyway because it was so much fun. It is a season when I enjoy my morning runs, springing into action again without the need for hats and gloves. My muscles and joints don’t ache so much, and I can run with more vigor. Spring to me means to spring forth into action with hope and renewed joy.
Grief and love
April is the month my dear father passed away in 2011. The yellow rapeseed fields are abundant and serve as a beautiful memory, reminding me of the yellow brick road from the film ‘The Wizard Of Oz’ and to always follow my path. I love that spring embodies the word ring, and a ring always comes with a promise, binding us together in love. Spring rings a bell of positivity, growth, and hope for the year ahead. The nights are lighter, evening walks are brighter. The children can play outside a little later, and we all relax a little.
Scotland in spring
We enjoy cleaning up our bicycles in spring and biking along the coast, stopping for our packed lunch and perhaps an ice cream and a coffee on the route. The Scottish people love ice cream; we are fortunate to have many local ice cream parlours serving delicious ice creams made using the cream from the local Aberdeenshire cows.
Spring brings heavy rainfall; on rainy days I love to run and get absolutely soaking wet. The experience is euphoric, though people say I am bonkers for loving a run in the rain.

Storms are common in Scotland in the springtime. I love to hear the big rumble of thunder and the patter of rain followed by an enchanting rainbow overlooking the yellow fields. It is profoundly spiritual for me and always brings a feeling that I am being sent a message from above that I am on the right path.
There are gifts in the Spring for us to behold when we look for them.
Thank you to our editors of Dancing Elephants Press for the opportunity to write this prompt which I have thoroughly enjoyed.
I wanted to share this incredible poetry by Dr. Gabriella Korosi. Enjoy!
