When I see fruits I cannot help but buy some. I know many people who do not like fruits as much as I do but I love fruits from the time I was a kid.

Fruits and Me

Let me narrate how I started enjoying fruits in my life.

I was a little kid and loved the fact that my grandparents were very loving.

My grandfather had a cold storage and ice factory. Those were the days there were no fridges. My paternal grandparents made an icebox at home.

There was ice in the lower part of the cabinet and fruits and vegetables on the top shelf. Since the ice factory was downstairs and they lived on the first floor the ice slab of 20Kilos would be refreshed. We had the luxury of a made-up fridge. 😀I know you will laugh but so it was.

All the fruits that we liked would just come up from the cold storage. My grandparents had 5 children. They had two sons and three daughters. My father was the eldest. All the children worked in different parts of India. My grandparents lived on their own and were used to plenty of food.

They lived royally with a lot of house help. They were a lovely couple.

In summer all of us cousins would come to Delhi and enjoy different kinds of fruit that were chilled and fun to eat.

One year when we went my grandfather offered us watermelon. He asked someone to bring it up from the cold storage.

Those days we could not make the watermelon cold so we used to put ice on it and it would turn into water. It was not enjoyable at all.

When we saw the chilled watermelon, we were excited and there it was we dug into the share that was served to us and it was so sweet.

Then we had watermelon juice. It was so tasty.

My grandmother insisted that we have a lot of fruit. It was good for our health. We had fruit sessions and in that there were stories told.

This was the primitive state at that time.

My grandmother was an excellent cook. She would make excellent desserts for us with fruits as they loved sweets. Moreover she would be creative and add something to make it tasty.

My favorite would be mango kulfi. We used to take it out from the ice box and eat it whenever we wanted. It was always ready in summer.

I also loved fruit cream or just pineapple or strawberries or mangoes with cream or Vanila icecream.

I love mangoes and we have so many varieties in India. We start with safeda, langra, dusseri aphoos are famour=s variety but would only come in the summer. In India fruits are seasonal and we have been respecting that for years. Now we get fruits from all over the world so things are different.

I enjoy mangoes so much that I was in Thailand and a friend was with me. We saw mangoes in a fruit shop and we immediately bought a mango, cut it into pieces, and ate it. We forgot our shopping because there was time either to enjoy the mangoes or to shop as we were in a group of people.

The benefits I achieved from fruits in my diet.

They say that fruits are good for health and there are many benefits as it brings wellness into your life.

I found two health benefits for myself.

1️⃣ I never suffered from constipation. People say that they have to deal with constipation. I tell them to eat fruits and this complaint will go.

Some of my friends like me have tried and they feel that they are much better after eating fruits consistently every day.

So if anyone suffers from constipation remember that eating fruit is the answer. However, it will not help if it is irregular. A plate of the fruit must be eaten every day.

2️⃣Fruits provide energy through nutrients. This helps to stay healthy and to feel less tired in life.

I keep active throughout the day. I feel happy and energetic. It is a feeling of happiness and satisfaction. I attribute it to eating fruits in my diet.

3️⃣I have even and clear skin as I eat fruits every day. It gives me a natural shine due to nature’s candy that I consume every day.

Keep your skin bright by looking after it. Eat fruits. They say orange juice and banana peels make excellent face masks for the skin.

4️⃣Dieticians recommend eating fruits when people are on a diet. Doctors say that to recover from an illness eat fruits or drink fruit juice.

I remember that when I was recovering from Chikungunya the doctor recommended coconut juice, orange juice, and plenty of fruits. These are my experiences.

Also, it is possible that I did not become obese because I avoid junk food and generally prefer healthy fresh fruits.

To wrap up

There are many health benefits to eating fruits. I have shared some experiences. I am sure others would have some more things to share about fruits in their lives.

Fruits do bring in wellness enriching our lives. I have enjoyed them always. Of course, it is a choice but I find that many of my friends who never ate fruits have started eating them too.

Do you have a special relationship with fruits? Any stories about them? Do share them.
