Tikku’s stories
Flying Beyond the Baby Blue Sky
a children’s story.
In Response to The Amusing Response Prompt
One late afternoon, Tikku was playing with his green truck in the corridor, when he heard his mum yelling,
“Tikku!! Why don’t you put away your toys after finishing playing! You are going to slip on one, or one day, I will slip, and fly away out of the window, into the thin air!! “
“Yeh, that could happen!” Tikku thought, “Oh, but, how bad it can be, flying beyond the baby blue sky”. He was amused, as surely, the thin air had to be living really up high!
Tikku didn’t always listen to his mum. Though he heard what she always said about his stray toys,
“Don’t put it down, once you finish, just put it away!”
Well, today again, he hadn’t put his toys away, but soon he forgot all about it!!
And carried on with his play!
He had a big pile of sand and marbles in one corner and was shifting the material to the other side.
After playing for a while, he decided to stop and go inside for a drink. He was thirsty, as it had turned out to be quite a warm day.
He went from the side door to the kitchen to quickly grab a carton of his favourite strawberry milk from the fridge, and came back to finish his game, as he still had quite a few rounds to make, to finish deliveries in his truck.
Tikku was working really hard to move the truck faster and faster. He wished the truck could fly as well, so it could reach from one corner of the corridor to the other quickly.
And, he actually might have said that loudly!
He was getting a bit tired now and wanted to stop playing soon. He wanted to go inside, as there was a change in the weather, and the wind had started to blow, and he was a bit scared of the noise.
He looked up to see the clouds gathering, and thought, soon it will start to rain, when suddenly, he heard a scream, “Tikku!”, and a gust of warm wind threw open the glass doors on the window, and the curtains, ballooning up, burst outside, and he thought he saw something flying away, disappearing into the thin air.
Just to check on his mum, Tikku ran inside and saw his ‘that day’s not so favourite’ toy, his red truck, lying on the floor sprawled upside down.
That morning, choosing between the red and green trucks, he had chosen to play with the green truck instead, and had put the red one down there, on the floor!
He hadn’t put it away!
“Oh boyee”….!!!
He ran inside calling his mother, but she did not answer, he was getting worried now, so he quickly came out to see, if there was any clue around the window, to tell him, about “what had flown out of the window, into the thin air”.
He looked under the windowsill, but only found a few of the broken parts of his toys. He didn’t remember when he had thrown them there but was really sorry today, that he had.
Mum always said, “If you keep your surroundings tidy, you won’t have accidents, and you’ll always keep healthy and happy”, yes, if it were tidy under the window, he could have found his clue easily! He thought.
He decided to go inside and check carefully, whether his mum was still in the house somewhere. So that, he didn’t have to worry about her flying away!
She had warned him a few times, hadn’t she, about flying away into the thin air!
He also wanted to check on the red truck, and if it was still on the floor, he planned to put it away.
Well, Tikku always preferred to run rather than walk slowly, and since it was actually a bit urgent to look for his mum, and he was getting a bit worried about her, he quickly ran inside.
And when he was crossing the corridor to get into the house, he tripped over something, and fell on his face, flat on the ground.
“Ouch!” It was his green truck, and the eyes on the face of the truck were shut with pain too.
“Sorry”, Tikku mumbled but as he tried to get up from the floor, he realised that his foot was caught in the truck, but when he tried to free it, his whole body started to get smaller in size, and instead of his foot getting out, his whole body was now in the truck.
“Let’s go and look for mum, Tikku”, the truck said, “I can fly, but hope you are not scared of speed”!
The green truck smirked, and then it started to move, faster, and faster, and soon, it was flying off the floor, and over the windowsill and then out.
Tikku shut his eyes, and also pursed his lips, as he didn’t want the truck to know that he was scared.
He could feel the warm air on his cheeks, and when he opened his eyes, he didn’t see any thin air at all!
All around them, it was the baby blue sky, and a few clouds!
And they were actually in a cloud bubble, which was getting higher and higher.
And soon, they could see something else flying just ahead of them, and they were following it fast.
Oh, it was his red truck! Tikku could already see its four red wheels turning fast, and soon, they caught up with it.
But then suddenly, the cloud bubble they were in, started to shrink, and Tikku and his green truck got stuck in it, while the red truck escaped!
“Ohhhh”!
Tikku screamed. He was sure that he had seen someone in the red truck, but now with the truck, whoever or whatever it was, it was gone into the thin air.
“We need to keep going up and up, for the clouds to rain, so we can free ourselves”, the truck said, and Tikku agreed, and they went up higher and higher!
And soon it started to rain, and with the clouds on the baby blue sky melting, his green truck started going down with the rain.
Tikku was really sad, when he got out of the green truck onto the ground. He saw his father’s car in the driveway and was not sure how he could tell his father what had happened.
It was all his fault, he wanted to scream!
But!
Right then he heard a voice calling him in for dinner,
“Tikku, wash your hands and come for dinner, darling!”
He couldn’t believe his ears; it was his mum’s voice!
He almost ran inside, leaving his truck there, towards the kitchen, but then he came back, picked up the green truck, and took it to his box of toys, and put it inside gently, and “Lo Behold”, the red truck was already there, relieved, Tikku patted it too, saying “Thank you”!
In response to Christine Graves’s last week’s prompt. What comes to your mind when you see the phrase?
Beyond the baby blue sky.
Thanks, Christine, for these inspiring prompts! These really help to ground or should I say, liberate, my muse! 👼👸
