Some of the Best Articles I Read This Week (#8)
My top picks from my recent Medium reading
Happy weekend! Once again, I want to share some of the best articles I’ve read over the last week or so on Medium. You can see my previous weekly summary here.
I’ve read a lot of great pieces of writing this week (keep ‘em coming!). Here, I’ve decided to focus on some very reflective pieces about who we are and about the journey we are on. I hope they resonate as much with you as they did with me.
First off, fifty years is not a milestone I’ve reached (quite) yet, but I loved this piece by Elise Chidley, and it made me think of how things are moving on in my own household, now that my kids are in their late teens:
A personal milestone I did reach recently was publishing my 100th Medium article, and I was therefore super interested to see that Michael M-C had reached the same point. Nice work, Michael!
Milestones are also a time to reflect. This piece by Rachel Greenberg is a very thought provoking one — could you be focusing on the wrong side hustle? I’m confident that writing is the one for me, but Rachel’s questions are good ones to ask about the day job, too!
While I’m in reflective mode, I recently chatted with several family members about how most of us are introverts (or at least towards the introvert side of things). This piece by 🌈LIFE LESSON reminds us that while it can be tough for introverts to fit in, we can learn to do so over time:
Similarly thought-provoking, Athena Milios in this very creative article invites us to consider the downsides of taking the path of least resistance:
I write a lot about creativity (see link at the end), and I thought that this piece by Jackie Olsen on idea generation was a really neat summary of how we can first generate and then develop an idea:
For me, a lot of my ideas and creative thinking feeds into my fiction. It was therefore amazing to connect with several fellow ‘story nerds’ in recent days, thanks to this initiative by Scot Butwell.
Check it out!
