Six More of My Fav Medium Writers and Why
Finding new writers is a surprise Medium perk
The first time I selected six favorite Medium writers from a huge list of loves, it was difficult. This time? Even harder.
Here is my first article, featuring Douglas Lim, Michele Maize, Dawn Ulmer, Annelise Lords, Don Drewniak, and Elizabeth Emerald.
Let me say, I am amazed at how addicting reading other Medium writers becomes. I confess that initially, I was reading, so they would read me.
Then I got hooked.
Now, when I see one my favorite writer’s post, I think —
“Oooh — I wonder what (fill in the blank) has written today.”
That said, it’s becoming clear that I will have to start reading less because it is consuming all my writing time. I’m not certain what that will look like yet. I may have to do what I see many are doing, which is a strict reciprocation of reads for reads. As I said, I don’t know yet. It’s a hard decision. I have to remember that I am on Medium to write.
Now on to my favs for this moment in time, in no particular order.
I’ll begin with Nour Boustani. Nour makes me think. Even if I don’t always agree, I respect his opinions and the process of how he arrives at his conclusions. Nour and I are quite different people. He’s an intellectual with unlimited patience for dissecting problems and seeking out results. Me? Not so much. That’s why it has been good for me to read his work. The topics he writes on are timely and pertinent to Medium writers. I also enjoy when he interjects personal stories into his work, as it is always very interesting.
Since I’ve learned a lot from Nour about AI, I chose his most recent article on AI to share.
Next up is Sherry Truitt. I not only admire Sherry’s writing, but also the lifestyle she chooses to lead. She’s a serious swimmer, and vegan with a zest for good living. Her topics are quite varied but always interesting. I especially love the article below about her love for her home.
Before Medium, it’s fair to say, I hated poetry. Britt H. and a few other Medium poets have turned me around on this. She is a true word master. I understand what she is saying and even better, I feel the emotions to the tip of my toes. Besides poetry, she is personally responsible for educating me on Japanese culture including food, legends, and horror. She’s an excellent, prolific writer. I always look forward to what she writes about next.
Next up is the perpetually energetic, Jan Sebastian 🖐👩🦰. She’s a fearless writer of many topics, with one common thread being that it is always fun to read. She’s made me laugh so loud my husband jumped out of his chair, and on many occasions she’s proven I can still blush. Normally I don’t read articles about how to make money on Medium or other financial propaganda, but Jan says it like it is and I always learn something. Her backstory reads like a Dynasty episode with bonus laughs. I chose the story below because I think it gives the reader a candid look (wink).
Next up is B.R. Shenoy, a wonderful read with a bonus — She’s also an amazing photographer. Her photos have seriously taken my breath away. My prior experience with reading travel writers has been a real yawn; just saying. With B.R., I feel like I’m along for the ride, sitting in the seat with the best view. As someone who has not traveled much, this is a huge treat. She shares all the details I would be interested in, like architecture, history, and food. Recently we have been exploring Greece. I’ve never been and if I’m being practical, I most likely will never go, but through B.R.’s photos and words, I am enjoying a virtual trip.
Lastly, I’ve chosen Natalie, who speaks clearly from the heart. She writes in a way that I feel like I know her. I have a hard time not leaving long comments with questions begging to know more about her. Don’t you think it’s great when you read someone’s work, and you just like them? Well, that’s Natalie. She shares her thoughts and life happenings in a way that is relatable. I enjoy all her work, but I particularly like this one about the awkwardness of sharing our beliefs.
Conclusion
Writers need writers. We get each other. We may have different backgrounds and beliefs, yet we have a bond through our love for wordsmithing. I am grateful for this newfound community.
I have more favs, so I’m sure there will be another post soon featuring other Medium favs.
