Summary

The website content discusses the author's passion for orchids, their blooming patterns in response to shorter days, and provides links to related stories and photography.

Abstract

The author, Luciano Abriata, shares their personal experience with orchid blooming cycles, noting that shorter days trigger flowering in evergreen orchids. The content includes a collection of the author's orchid photographs, some of which were taken earlier in the year, and others showing current blooms. The author has acquired these orchids through purchases, gifts, and rescues from organic waste bins. Additionally, the author invites readers to explore other nature-related photography and stories, including a photo hunt for wild orchids in Switzerland and features on resilient Mediterranean flowers, autumnal blooms, and dahlias. The website also serves as a platform for the author to offer services such as programming, biotech consultations, and photography, and to encourage readers to become Medium members or subscribe to the author's stories.

Shorter days are making my orchids bloom

I post here shots of my individual plants and also of “arrangements” where I’ve mixed them together into orchid-rich jungles.

I don’t know the biology behind this, but it’s a fact that with shorter days my orchids bloom. The same happens in the South hemisphere, six-months off-phase of course. So there must be something to it. Notice however that this is on evergreen orchids, but not on the wild orchids from cold climates which grow and bloom only in spring and summer:

You will see here lots, lots of orchids. They are not all bloomed right now (some photos are from the early months of the year) but many of them are.

Many of these plants I bought myself; others are presents from friends and family, and most were recovered by me from the organic waste bins -where people trash them when their flowers die off. How can they!?
