Summary

Dancing Elephants Press has released its 21st weekly writing prompt, encouraging writers to list ten things they love about themselves to foster self-love and community engagement.

Abstract

The Dancing Elephants Press (DEP) has introduced its 21st weekly prompt as part of its 52-week initiative, inviting writers to engage in self-reflection by listing ten things they appreciate about themselves. This exercise is designed to bolster self-esteem and promote a supportive environment within the DEP community. The prompt is accompanied by a call to tag fellow DEP writers' works and to participate in the DEP WhatsApp group. The prompt is inspired by the author's mother, who recommended making lists of joyful aspects of one's life to improve mood and self-esteem. DEP also highlights recent community activities, including a Zoom meeting, the announcement of the Writer of the Month Award, and book project updates.

Hola! my friends! So much has happened over the last couple of weeks! To just mention a few highlights — we had a fun Zoom meeting; we announced our first awardee, GnanVi_Speaks, for the Writer of the Month Award; Book participants for both books were announced — and more of our writers joined our WhatsApp group.

Feels so good coming closer together, right?

In the spirit of getting to know one another better, here is your prompt for this week.

List ten things you love about yourself. Be as descriptive as you like, or as brief as you like. It can be poetry, an essay, or a listicle, whatever moves your spirit is just fine.

Some thought starters:

What makes you special? What are your best qualities? What are you good at? What are your talents, your unique skills? Thrill us with an anecdote that involves any/all of the above. We want to know.

Why this prompt?

This is something I learned from my mother. Whenever I felt low, she suggested I make a list of five things that made me happy or five incidents that bring me joy. Now, when I was upset about something, she suggested I extend that list to ten things I like about myself.

The idea was to keep that list safe and add to it if I felt like it. Every time I needed a mood boost, looking at that list would make me feel at least a little better. Or a lot better. Raise my confidence. Believe in myself. Improve self-esteem.

As Victoria Gregg writes in her post, the greatest love of all is self-love.

Easier said than done, eh?

You won’t believe how hard I found it to make that list! After two things, I was stuck. It is probably because most of us are tuned to thinking that we must put ourselves last. We never pause to think about what’s special about us.

The truth is, self-love is the best love. We have to love ourselves and take care of ourselves to be the best version of ourselves.

So, my dear writers, please respond to this prompt. Set yourselves free. Open up and bring out the best in you!

I look forward to big participation.
