Summary

The undefined website outlines a "Scrabble Your Medium" competition that challenges writers to incorporate Scrabble-themed elements into their articles for points, with various rules and rewards.

Abstract

The undefined website introduces a creative writing challenge called "Scrabble Your Medium," inviting participants to blend their love for Scrabble and writing prompts. Entrants are required to include a Scrabble board image in their articles and can submit multiple entries. The competition, which currently runs until January 15, 2023, features a unique scoring system that awards points for claps, comments, and specific content within the articles, such as making fun of "Grimsby Hackney" or using certain words. Bonus points are also given for publishing in "The Pub" and for the timing of article submissions. The top-scoring articles will receive various prizes, including links to the authors' articles and charitable donations.

Opinions

  • The challenge is designed for those who enjoy both writing prompts and Scrabble, suggesting a niche but engaged audience.
  • The scoring system implies that community engagement, through claps and comments, is highly valued.
  • The playful jabs at "Grimsby Hackney" indicate a lighthearted and humorous tone for the competition.
  • The decision to award points for using specific words, such as "blowjob," suggests a willingness to push boundaries and encourage bold content.
  • The prize structure, which includes non-monetary rewards like article links and postcards, emphasizes recognition and community support over financial gain.
  • The possibility of adding new scoring rules later allows for flexibility and ongoing engagement with the challenge.
  • The example provided of Annie Trevaskis's scoring shows that strategic use of the scoring system can significantly increase an entrant's points.
  • The tagging of specific Medium users at the end suggests targeted outreach to individuals known for their engagement with such challenges.

Good luck!

Scrabble Your Medium — Challenge Alert!

A new challenge for the challenge and/or Scrabble lovers

Made with Scrabulizer

If you enjoy prompts AND think the “100 things in 20 minutes” is more boring than a comment from Grimsby Hackney, you’ve come to the right place.

To enter the “Scrabble Your Medium” competition, follow the rules.

Rules

  • We accept any Scrabble Dictionary
  • Your article shall include at least one picture of a Scrabble board (homemade or not).
  • You can participate several times.
  • The challenge will end on January 15, 2023, or later, depending on the number of participants.
  • Tag me in your article for scoring purposes.

Scoring system

  • 1 point per clap.
  • 10 points per comment on your article (multiple comments from the same person count several times).
  • If people in the comment section give you points, we will add them to your total (see my comment here for example). One person cannot give more than 100 points in the comments of a given article.
  • 87 points for publishing in The Pub.
  • 242 points for making fun of Grimsby Hackney in your article.
  • 300 points for the first article in the contest, 200 for the second, and 100 for the third.
  • 4,200 points for story #42 in the challenge (I’m doubtful there will be one).
  • You get a double score if your article is a poem.
  • You get a triple score for using the word “blowjob” in your submission.

Additional info:

  • The final number of points for claps and comments will be counted at the end of the challenge, currently set for January 15, with a possible extension.
  • We will add up the points from your different submissions.
  • We reserve the right to add scoring rules later.

Example of scoring

Annie Trevaskis published the first article (by the way, this challenge exists thanks to her comment here):

Too bad for her that she didn’t know the scoring rules before publishing.

Anyway, her score would be:

  • (300 — first article) + 231 claps + 10x6 comments + (17 points in the comments) = 608
  • blowjob bonus x3
  • Total = 1,824

Prize money

  • Winner: nothing. You already won. What could be better than this feeling?
  • Second place: I will add a link to one of your articles (your choice) at the end of 2 of my articles.
  • Third place: I will send you a postcard (snail mail or electronic — your choice).
  • Fourth place: $11 paid to the charity of your choice.
  • Fifth place: I will add a link to one of your articles (your choice) at the end of 5 of my articles.
  • Sixth to Tenth place: I will add a link to one of your articles (your choice) at the end of 1 of my articles.
  • Eleventh place and further: to be determined.

Best of luck to all of you!
