Scars Are Lifelines Connecting Our Past to Our Future
Poetry prompt — what wounds look like as they heal

Scrittura is a magazine I don’t write for. But luckily my friends keep me in the loop of interesting prompts. This one was given to me by Tree Langdon in ‘Soothe the Blackened Vessels’ and some other writers.
Thanks, J.D. Harms and Scrittura for this beautiful prompt that triggered me.
My Scars Are Life Lines
My wounds are medals of a life worth living.
My wounds are scars who weave my memories into a web of life, Life, LIFE.
My wounds are raw and real. Lifelines I can only trace with my thumb or my tongue.
I caress my scars and feel how past and present become future, and flow into rivers of tears and frustrated anger.
Scars of scary moments. Scars of heartbreak and longing, hopelessly drowned in impossible dreams.
I caress my scars and heal them. One. By. One.
With my mind. With universal magic. Touched by a breeze through the branches of interwoven connectedness.
And when your tears join mine, we’ll decide here and now, does it stop. Full stop?
Or shall we go on healing and trusting each other enough to face the risk of new scarring together?
Trust me or go...
Let me tag some of the people Tree tagged too. I’m curious what you’ll make of this prompt… Martine Trista Selma Elisabeth Amy Zelam Dew Agnes Jenine Adelia Kaia Maria Charlotte Gurpreet Lanu Aurora Neha Noma Sherry Chowa FILZA Tamela Ravyne Sumera Ntathu Ashok
