River, You Are a Beauty!
My fascination for rivers

I can’t swim well, but that cannot stop me from spending time with rivers. Wherever I go, when I see a river, I feel an intense desire to spend some time exploring it.
Fortunately, my country is blessed with countless rivers. Some of them are still young, while others have already dried out or half-dead. As you can imagine, human beings are the ones to blame.
As far as I understand, my fascination for rivers has its root in my childhood. Our village home was only a hundred meters away from a lovely small river. When I was a kid, I used to spend countless hours playing on the river bank.
I would make small balls for my slingshot using mud from the river and leave it on the bank under the sun. When the balls dried out, I would place them in the oven. They turned red and unbreakable.
That time I was in love with yellow birds and wanted to have one of them. Little did I know that slingshot could never get me nearer to those lovely yellow birds. Kids, sometimes, are unknowingly cruel. Maybe, it is in our nature.
Anyway, I would explore the river bank barefoot, play with mud and water, see birds, and catch fish when the water was very low, especially in the winter. The days were lovely and full of fun and activities.
Back in those days, I was in poor health and, despite many efforts, failed to learn the art of swimming. I get tired after a few minutes and feel intense pressure in my chest. So, I cannot claim that I am a good swimmer. So, when my other friends would dive deep and challenge each other to cross the river, I would only watch them having fun, standing from a safe distance.

Now I live in a big city, a concrete jungle with so many disturbances. That’s why, when I get tired of this monotonous daily life, I pay a visit to a river somewhere and listen to its serene music.
Sometimes, I go alone and other times, with one or two friends. But the river never disappoints me. Every time I go to experience her beauty, she embraces me with love and tranquility.
Sometimes, I take a paddleboat and go in the middle of the river. The gentle waves, music created by the wind, the sky above, the water splash — everything seems magical.
I have always been a lover of small rivers. It has so much to offer, and I think I can spend an entire day just sitting on a riverbank.
