The woman, Sophie, calls him out and throws her drink in his face, highlighting the consequences of his forgetful and presumptuous behavior. This brief narrative is part of the "100 Story Challenge" by Zane Dickens and showcases the author Eva MacInnes's ability to craft a complete story arc within the constraints of the drabble format.

Opinions

  • The author presents Rich as someone who is used to getting his way with women, indicating a sense of entitlement and overconfidence.
  • The story implies a critique of the 'pick-up' culture, where charm and lines are prioritized over genuine connections.
  • Sophie's reaction suggests a rejection of the casual and disrespectful treatment she likely received from Rich in their previous encounter.
  • The narrative takes a humorous turn, using irony to undercut Rich's expectations and deliver a moment of poetic justice.
  • The author, Eva MacInnes, identifies herself as a writer and editor specializing in romance, which may influence the story's focus on relationships and interactions between characters.

This drabble (100-word story) is a response to Crush Hundo Edition’s word prompt. Today’s word is SLICK.

Rich had game. He was a slick guy. He was used to getting what and who he wanted. It wasn’t even a challenge anymore. He had his pick-up lines, and they worked every time.

It was Friday night and Rich was on the prowl. It was the perfect set up. The club was pumping when he spotted her at the bar. He strolled on over and offered to buy her a drink.

She accepted and immediately threw it in his face.

“Seriously Rich?! I take it you can’t remember as far back as last Tuesday!”

“Oh crap… Hi Sophie…”

This 21st drabble is written as part of the “100 Story Challenge” by @Zane Dickens.
