It’s not prescribed. It doesn’t really work.

Yes, we know. I know. But, it distracts with

possibility, it shines with shallow hope

if I had this thing, or that thing, it might help

make me feel better

like plaster over a hole in a wall,

a pretty new in season dress, that new matching lipstick,

those shoes those shoes those shoes - a quick fix built to crumble,

at the slightest bump we know, I know, you know,

but hey, at least we look pretty when we fall, until

we learn to patch and fill and fix and heal —

to get straight to the not so simple and glamorous source of the pain that is real.
