Remove The Sting From Your Heart.

We are capable of feeling a range of deep emotions including anger, despair, fear, frustration, anxiety, pain, grief, loss. This is what makes us human. When strong emotion stings our heart, we can work to ease our own and others’ suffering by removing the sting and re-focusing with compassion.

But how can we do it? Some things just prick us and we can shake it off pretty quickly but others penetrate right to our very core and linger, burning like a fire which we can’t ignore. We become overwhelmed, often consumed by anger or fear, and can’t see the way out.

We have to cool the heat with wisdom by seeing clearly and understanding what is at the root of our pain. Meditation can help. If we can break through ‘thinking’ by calming the mind, wisdom will arise.

Resentment, bearing grudges, aversion, greed — as reactions these can all cause a sting in the heart. When you are quiet and focusing inwards you will become aware of the niggling. If you investigate you can get to the bottom of it and find answers about the cause but you have to be honest with yourself and listen.

It’s not always easy but if you can remove the sting you can begin to free yourself and at least set down that burden. Then you will know how to do it the next time, and the next.

May this teaching lead you to happiness; may it help you grow in truth. May you be freed from the suffering of birth and death.
