Summary

The 'Read for Read' (R4R) club on Medium is a community initiative to support, connect, and engage members through reading and commenting on each other's articles, with an expectation of genuine engagement and reciprocity.

Abstract

The R4R club is designed to foster a community of Medium members who are passionate about reading and engaging with content. Members are encouraged to join by commenting on a specific article and are expected to be active Medium members and to truly engage with the articles listed. The club operates on a rotational basis, with members being tagged in one of several lists that are published, each containing around 10 articles. Members are reminded to read all articles in their assigned list thoroughly, post thoughtful comments, and clap up to 50 times to show support. The club emphasizes the value of reading and engaging with others' work and provides a structured way for members to discover new content and connect with fellow writers and readers. It also addresses the practicality of managing engagement, noting that members are not expected to read every list but should focus on the one they are tagged in, although they are welcome to engage with other lists as well.

  • The facilitator of the R4R club encourages reading at a comfortable pace, suggesting that members can spread out their reading over time rather than feeling pressured to read all articles at once.
