Quitter

A reset for the soul and brain.

Bath tub drain by Skitterphoto — Pexels

sometimes quitting is a reset for the soul and brain.

you know it’s calling to you when what you once wanted is suddenly just a tangled web of wet hair sticking to your sorry shower drain.

those beautiful locks are now an ugly blob of goo. they lay pathetically on the damp floor, as yet another chore on your list of things to do

you wonder why you even wanted it in the first place,

you question your headspace, and who you were back then when you thought this tangled mess was a lovely lotus

perhaps you begin to notice that the happiness you once had, is now a prayer;

you’ve strung together these joyous memories like a pleading rosary.

you look around, and see you’ve had one foot out the door for quite a while, but have been waiting on a miracle.

that day doesn’t arrive,

so you get called a quitter

for leaving

for changing

for wanting something better.

Do not pay them any mind,

leave what doesn’t serve you behind.

Thank you for reading! Getting to the point where you leave what no longer serves you behind can be a long journey. Listen to your inner voice.
