Quick Midjourney Update: 5 key highlights to know (8th November 2023)
Keeping up with the rapid changes and developments
Here’s a quick rundown of the most recent Midjourney Weekly Office Hours:
(1) Upcoming releases
- Small website updates — very soon. (Update: small changes implemented on 12th November 2023)
- Midjourney V5.3 — next 2 weeks.
- Midjourney V6 — perhaps by the end of this month.
- The 3D feature will be available next year.
(2) Midjourney Website
- A small web release with additional features is planned. It will take longer to release the downloader.
- The image creation feature will first be available to users who have generated over 10,000 images.
(3) Midjourney V5.3
- Potential V5.3 are expected to be released (90% likelihood) within the next two weeks, subject to internal developer testing.
- If it is successful, it will be a significant update with a boost in coherency.
(4) Midjourney V6 and V7
- V6 will be released this year. Perhaps by the end of November.
- V6 is vastly different from previous versions. To use the new version, users may need to relearn some prompting.
- V6 can generate text.
- Because of time and data constraints, some new features will be released after V6 in V7.
- Users may be able to rate images at a V6 image rating party.
- Following V6, the emphasis will be on character consistency.
- V7 is expected to arrive 1–2 months after V6. It will be trained using more accurate data.
(5) Other updates
(5.1) Miscellaneous updates
- A Style Tuner for Niji is in development.
- The 3D feature requires more data and will be available next year.
- Upscaler has a third version that works better but takes a long time. The developer is still trying to figure out what to do with it.
- David is very interested in producing large batches of images with more than four images in the image grid. More images per grid will give users more options for selecting images.
- David is also interested in the
--tileoption. As a result, for tile fans (including myself), this feature will likely remain in the long run. He suggested creating a “tile gallery” where people could browse the tiles.
(5.2) New style codes shared by Thaeyne
The /tune command excels at producing many new and unexpected styles in a single Tuner page. In the video, Thaeyne (a YouTuber) shared 50 new style codes. I tried with a few codes, which were created with the --style random parameter. When experimenting with new code, I discovered some interesting and unexpected effects when using style codes in other prompts.
The featured image in this story was created with the style code glOdTgbRcAB, and it “supposed to be” looks like this (see below) when the original prompt “animal” is used. When the prompt is changed to “cats” (plural), it generates an entirely different image.
