Quick Midjourney Update: 5 key highlights to know (6th December 2023)
Keeping up with the rapid changes and developments

Here’s a quick rundown of the most recent Midjourney Weekly Office Hours:
(1) Upcoming releases
- Midjourney V6 will be available in the third or final week of December.
- This week, the website batch downloader will be released.
- Next week, the website collection feature.
- The image creation feature will be available to super users who have generated over 10,000 images next Monday or Tuesday.
(2) Midjourney Website
- There will be a new Explore page where users can filter the images. The filter is skewed to display a diversity of new, never-before-seen images.
- Following the Image Creation, social features on the website will be added, allowing users to work and communicate with one another.
(3) Midjourney V6
- This version is capable of writing text and is more knowledgeable. It understands more camera angle terminology, for example, than previous versions.
- It is more sensitive to prompts, so be more specific and clean when crafting prompts. Multi-prompting may be affected as well.
- It has a powerful image-prompting feature. For example, when an image of an apple with a label is used as an image prompt, the label can be changed.
- V6 is now well-trained, and issues with JPEG artifacts have been resolved.
- The developer appears to be rushing out V6 before the end of the year because the following features are missing: no change in batch size (number of images per grid), no new upscaler, no inpainting, and possibly no new Style Tuner.
- It is being fine-tuned to improve the aesthetics.
- It has a stronger house style.
- There will be various rating party activities, such as users rating the version’s prompt accuracy, aesthetics, etc.
(4) Post-V6
- Following V6, the developers will focus on Character and Style Consistency.
- The generated videos will always look good and different from those in the market now.
- The larger batch size feature will be added after V6.
- The developers will work on a “slower model” that puts quality ahead of speed.
(5) Other updates
(5.1) Bias against AI art

- A recent article by Nature (Scientific Reports) concluded that people devalue and are biased against AI-generated art, even when it is indistinguishable from human-made art.
- The bias is especially noticeable regarding perceptions of skill and monetary value.
- The direct comparison of human-made and AI-created art improves perceptions of human creativity. Compared to AI-created art, the same piece of art is perceived as more creative when labeled human-made.
- Human-AI collaborative art is valued less than human-made art but more than AI-made art.
- The study used a variety of human-made and AI-created art stimuli in 6 experiments with a total of 2,965 participants.
- Regardless of how participants feel about AI or their background in art/technology, the bias persists.
- There are historical parallels, such as concerns about photography’s impact on painting. However, AI art has the potential to improve perceptions of human creativity.
