Quick Midjourney Update: 6 key highlights to know (29th November 2023)
Keeping up with the rapid changes and developments

Here’s a quick rundown of the most recent Midjourney Weekly Office Hours:
(1) Upcoming releases
- Midjourney V6 is still scheduled for release in mid-December.
- New website features: The release date is delayed. Some features will most likely be available by next week.
(2) Midjourney Website
- The Collection and Downloader features will be available next week.
- The image creation feature is currently being stress-tested. It will be released first to users who have already generated 10,000 images if it passes.
- According to David, the website features (collection, downloader, and image creation) are expected to be available by mid-December.
- Another feature under consideration is the filter function on the front page, which displays images that users are interested in, such as landscape images, Nijis, etc.
(3) Midjourney V6
- The V6 will be more coherent, with improved aesthetics and knowledge, as well as text drawing capability and a new upscaler.
- The developers are considering a batch size mode where users can specify the number of images generated per grid, such as 8x8 grid, 2x2 grid, etc.
- The resolution of more images per grid will be lower (512 pixels) for large batch sizes.
- A larger batch size allows the bot to show the users more artistic styles per job.
- The new upscaler will be tested until the following Monday.
- Some features that were not included in V6 will be included in V7.
- Depending on what the users are doing, V6 can be slower.
- Following the release of V6, there will be a rating party.
(4) Midjourney V7
- The V7 may include a video feature that’s “good enough.”
- David defines “good enough” as “most things you made with it will look good, and you are happy with it.”
- Because 3D requires more training data, the video feature will come first.
- The video feature will have limitations, but those limitations are unknown. How many seconds of video it will produce per input is also unclear.
(5) Future Outlook
- Following the release of V6, the focus will be on character and style consistency.
- A new Style Tuner is in the works. New style codes that are consistent across prompts and a Tuner that provides instant feedback will most likely be released in Q1 2024. It should be quick and straightforward to use.
- The new Style Tuner may not have 128 Style Directions initially, but more style directions will be added later.
- Because the team has grown 4 to 5 times in size, things are expected to move faster in 2024. The priority for 2023 is growing the team.
