Quick Midjourney Update: 5 key highlights to know (1st November 2023)

Here’s a quick rundown of the most recent Midjourney Weekly Office Hours:

(1) Style Tuner

• This new feature is scheduled to be released today. (Update: already released now)
• It allows users to override the style system, create and share styles, and control the visual biases of Midjourney.
• Enter /tune with a prompt to generate different visual and aesthetic directions.
• The Style Tuner will also generate shareable web tuner links, allowing unlimited style generation from a single tuner.
• The Style Tuner will cost you fast hours to use.
• If you don’t want to use the Style Tuner, continue using Midjourney’s default style system.
• Style Tuner was previously known as the Aesthetic Personality Test.

(2) Midjourney Website

• Website organization and downloading features may be available this week.
• Next week, a new explore page is scheduled to be released.
• The developer aims to make it easier for users to find and use download features.
• Image creation will be enabled for new users only after the website has a sufficient amount of social infrastructure.
• The developer wants to avoid common social network structures leading to a toxic environment (likes, followers). The emphasis is on exploration and sharing.
• A new website will be beta-tested with 10,000 power users before being gradually rolled out to more users.

(3) Midjourney V5.3 and Upscalers

• It is still unclear whether V5.3 will be released. There will be a significant difference if released in the next two weeks.
• The alternative will be to release updates for the Upscalers, but this is also still being determined.

(4) Midjourney V6

• Hopefully, V6 and a more advanced web version with social features will be available within 4–6 weeks.
• The developer’s goal is to have more frequent smaller releases with a few big releases.

(5.1) Midjourney statistics

• According to Just Creative, as of September 7th, 2023, there are nearly 15 million users and approximately 1 million active users of Midjourney. Every day, approximately 80–90,000 new users join the Discord servers. Around 60% of Midjourney users are men, while 40% are women. Midjourney has 964 million images as of September 2023.

• What are the results of the comparison after repeated prompting four times? The images produced by the “2d tile set” are more vibrant than those produced by the “a grid layout.”
• Regarding generating grid layout, the “2d tile set” result is more predictable. The “grid layout” will generate a grid as well as 1–2 unexpected (mixed) images.
