Pursuing Entrepreneurship Will Make You Face Your Demons

As much as I work on my side hustles, I also work on personal development, if not more.

I began pursuing entrepreneurship, side hustles, whatever you want to call it, in 2019. Along the journey, I discovered that to succeed in business, you must master yourself.

Let me elaborate.

Pursuing entrepreneurship is like getting into a committed relationship.

You’ve decided to be with this person (side hustle) and do what it takes to make it work because the outcome you believe you can have is amazing.

But not long after, you run into challenges. There are things you see you don’t like about your partner. There are difficulties you had no idea would come into play.

You learn intimate details about your partner and yourself.

These details reveal to you what needs to be worked on both sides. After all, nothing and no one is perfect.

You start to work on some things, for example, being a better listener. This can show you much more about yourself than you originally thought.

This pattern continues.

A new challenge comes up, and you decide to face it because you made a commitment, and you still hold the belief that what you have has the potential to be wonderful.

In the process, you learn even more about yourself and your struggles and continue working on them to be a better partner.

Let me give you my example.

When I first began to pursue entrepreneurship right away, I struggled with consistency. I had a problem with following through and carrying out the tasks needed to succeed.

I had to ask myself — why can’t I follow through with these tasks? Even though I said I would do this, how come I talk myself out of doing them almost every time?

After many counseling sessions, attempts, experiences, and life lessons, I learned my issues with self-worth were sabotaging my progress.

The reason why I had such a difficult time following through was that I believed I was unworthy of abundance and success.

Even though I dreamed of becoming my own boss one day and elevating my lifestyle and wealth, my subconscious would sabotage me by pulling me back and reminding me of what I believed then — I don’t deserve this because I’m not worthy of it.

This has been and still is one of my biggest battles.

I’m doing much better, as you can see.

I’ve been publishing regularly for the past few months, and I plan to continue doing so for the foreseeable future.

Something else I’ve learned about myself on this journey is my hesitance to take action without having a clear picture of what’s ahead.

Some of us, control freaks, like to know everything about everything.

Pursuing entrepreneurship is the complete opposite. It’s a leap of faith.

It took a very long time to make the decision to begin creating and posting content.

I was reading blogs on Medium for almost a year before I decided to begin publishing my own. Now, I have over 110 published blogs (yay!).

The funny thing is, the hesitance is still there. I still feel a little nervous about publishing.

The difference now is I do it regardless of how I feel. I hit the publish button despite my nerves.

If you’re thinking of pursuing a side hustle, making money online, or anything along the lines that puts you on the path of entrepreneurship, be ready to face what you never expected.

But also be ready to be freed.

Knowing my weaknesses and understanding why I did the things I did and why I do them today has freed me to make better decisions for myself and my future.

Facing your demons will free you and allow you to create a life you’re truly content with.

Tell me, what has pursuing entrepreneurship taught you about yourself?
