Summary

Carolyn Hastings humorously describes the post-Christmas lethargy that inspires her to write a micropoem, or "twittle," amidst the festive season's brain fog, and encourages readers to participate in Paper Poetry's "Decidedly December" writing prompt.

Abstract

In the wake of Christmas, Carolyn Hastings captures the essence of the holiday's aftermath with a whimsical reflection on the mental fogginess that often follows the day's festivities. She attributes this state of "brain fuzz" to the indulgent brandy cream on her Christmas pudding, which seems to trigger an annual bout of laziness and mental sluggishness. In an effort to combat this and gear up for the new year, Hastings challenges herself to create a 100-letter, 4-line micropoem, known as a twittle. This creative endeavor is part of Paper Poetry's month-long "Decidedly December" writing prompt, which she promotes to her readers, inviting them to join in before the month ends. Hastings also draws inspiration from fellow writers like Thalia Dunn and Megan Nicole Morgan, who have contributed their own twittles to the theme. The article concludes with a thank you to the readers and a gentle nudge to subscribe to her email list or become a Medium member through her affiliate link.

It must be the brandy cream on the Christmas pudding that sets off the brain fuzz because every year around mid-afternoon on Christmas Day it happens. Up until that point, I’m buzzing along, everything under control…

…and then pfzzzt!

I’m a fuzz bucket

filled with leaden laziness

it takes days to revitalize

just go ask Goose! 😜

I was determined to shake off the post-Christmas laziness and get my brain into gear ahead of a big year in 2023. What better way to do that than with a 100-letter, 4-line micropoem, aka a twittle?!

And what better time than for Paper Poetry’s Decidedly December month-long prompt?! There are still a few days left to join in. You’ll find the details here -
