In my earlier posts, I’ve chatted about all kinds of Spider-Man stuff, and you can find those links down below.

But today, I’m gonna dive into the buzz surrounding the tweaks they’re making to Peter Parker in the next Spider-Man 2 game. Let’s get into it!

You remember Marvel’s Spider-Man, right? That gem was crafted by the wizards at Insomniac Games and dropped in 2018. It was so epic that Sony was like, “We need to lock these folks down!”

So, they officially acquired Insomniac. And, it’s not just the game — it even inspired the whole Spider-Verse madness, like that slick animated film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Yuri Lowenthal, the awesome voice behind Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, has been airing his thoughts lately, and it’s all about the ongoing chatter surrounding Peter Parker’s face in the game. He’s been talking about it with ComicBook.com, and boy, is he tired of it! This comes just before the highly anticipated release of Spider-Man 2.

In 2020, when they released the remastered version of the original game for the PlayStation 5, they decided to give Peter Parker’s face a makeover. Now, Insomniac said it was all about making those facial animations sync up better with Yuri Lowenthal’s incredible performance. But oh boy, did that decision stir the pot! Some die-hard fans were like, “Whoa, whoa, whoa! What have you done to our boy?”

You see, they were really into John Bubniak’s older and more mature Peter Parker look from the original game. They thought the new face was trying to be like the younger Spidey we see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, played by Tom Holland.

And that just didn’t sit right with them, especially when they were used to the seasoned web-slinger from the first game. But guess what Yuri Lowenthal had to say about all this hoopla? He was like:

“The performance was the same for me. I got over it as soon as they said, ‘Hey, we wanna make this change so that the facial animation is better.’

I said, ‘I’m all in!’ I don’t care if he looks like a goblin, if my performance is better, then I’m in. I’m kind of tired of talking about it to be honest, because I think everything that needs to be said has been said.

Some people will take longer to get over it, some people will never get over it. The one positive thing I take away from this experience is that people connected emotionally so hard and so deeply in the first game that they’re mad when they feel that person changes.

I can only be so mad about that because it worked, not the change thing, but you connected with the character which is great. Now, get over it!”

Final Words

So, there you have it, straight from Spidey’s mouth! Yuri Lowenthal is all about that top-notch performance, and he’s ready to swing past this whole facial makeover drama.

Maybe it’s time we all do the same and focus on the epic adventures awaiting us in Spider-Man 2!
