Our View Of Other People Is Biased, So Who Can We Trust?
“The Americans have many virtues, but they have not faith and hope… The Americans have no faith. They rely on the power of the dollar; they are deaf to a sentiment.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
We all have weaknesses, biases, and shortcomings. Being a fan of someone makes me see them in a favorable way, that isn’t necessarily true.
I look to them as heroes or guides when they are people just like me. Giving other people that much admiration and praise is part of what makes me insecure. I think they are cooler, smarter, or funnier, but they have flaws just like me. No one is perfect.
If we think others are better than us and follow the things they do, we allow ourselves to be influenced and controlled by them. The more we fight and defend another person or perspective the more we lose ourselves and fall into the tribal mindset.
This isn’t healthy or productive, it keeps us stuck. Looking to others for guidance and inspiration won’t work. We need to figure out who we are and live our lives according to what we believe.
Stop putting so much praise and admiration on other people, find what’s unique about you and share it with the world. Stop trying to be like other people, be you.
