PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE
Our Last Days in Northern Germany
Week 116 of the photographic documentary of my daily life
Yes, I still can’t believe it but the season is over. The past six months have flown by and another chapter in our lives is coming to an end.
The last days were filled with the calls of migrating cranes and geese, some packing, and goodbyes to our new friends. It’s the circle of life. You’re looking back at the great time you had and at the same time, you’re excited about what’s coming next.
This week I’ve tried to take in all the beauty this place had to offer and especially now in fall, I had plenty to capture with my camera.
This picture was taken from work looking in the direction of the trailer park. One of the old trailers on site is completely black and that’s what’s standing out so nicely behind this linden tree.

The cranes were coming to the field right next to the trailer park since Monday and they are happily feasting on the harvested farmland. The birds appeared in incredible numbers and stay from sunrise until sunset. At times they are loud. Like very loud. But I love hearing their calls. It makes me feel how connected I am with nature as I live here.

It was raining on Saturday when I followed the loud calls of the cranes and decided to snap a picture despite the rain. I loved seeing the birds on the ground, in flight, and in between as they were taking off.

The mornings had been spectacular and as the sun is rising later and later every day, I get to see more and more of the beauty of each sunrise. This morning I walked onto the field with a cup of tea in one hand and the camera in the other hand. I stood there for long watching the sky explode in a festival of colors (see title image).
And then I went down to capture the blow ball against the backdrop of the sunrise. Thousands of tiny water droplets were shining in the meadow. Thin threads made of silk are connecting blades of grass with lone-standing flowers.
Nature was once again at its best. Creating arts.

After a farewell party on Sunday evening, getting up this Monday wasn’t easy but had to be done. After a quick breakfast, we started packing up all our things and loading the car. And if I say loading I mean filling it to the rim. There was not a gap left in the end. Just enough space for the two of us to sit in the front.
Yes, we might have accumulated a few too many things in our time living here but we were relieved when the doors were closed, all goodbyes were said and we could hit the road.
A drive of just under 8 hours brought us slowly but safely back to my parents' place in southern Germany. Our refuge for the upcoming few weeks.

Since we arrived late on Monday evening, we didn’t take the time to unpack the car but only took out the valuables.
Tuesday meant unloading the car and finding space in my parents' flat to store it all. My room all of a sudden gets very small and I get overwhelmed. This is always the time when I decide we own too much stuff and need to downsize more.
Walking back and forth to the car what felt like a hundred times, I always looked at this beautiful flower pot my mom placed in front of the door. She changes the flowers in it according to the season and I love her choice for the upcoming winter.
Edelweiss.
