PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE

It’s All Between Sky and Earth

Week 114 of the photographic documentary of my daily life

There is so much beauty to be found in our lives. It’s just on us to receive it. Only with open eyes and ears we can take it all in and embrace most of our days.

It’s all between the sky and the earth. Look to the skies, and watch sunrises and sunsets. Watch the birds flying above your head and listen to their calls. But do look down as well. Look to the ground and see the beauty of a blooming sunflower or a bird feeding on the fields.

This has been my week between sunny days and cloudy nights. I’ve captured the sky and earth as well.

Starting out the week with a picture taken late in the evening as the moon was rising above the trailer park. It wasn’t full moon just yet but the light he was giving off made all lamp poles stand in the dark.

Another day and another spectacular evening. The sun had set in the West already but the clouds in the east were still lit up by the glorious sunset light.

And just a few hours later the sun was coming up again. Clouds were preventing me from seeing the glowing ball but instead, I could see layers of yellow, orange, and blue shining clouds.

Yes, I’m not done yet with the migration of the cranes. They aren’t gone yet and therefore I will continue sharing pictures of flocks of birds in the sky. Currently, they just do a stopover in the area where we live. They will stay for a few weeks, feed on the harvested fields, and then continue heading south.

And after looking at the skies for so long I got some pictures from the ground as well. A field of blooming flowers attracted my attention this afternoon and made me stop to take a few pictures.

From the earth back to the sky. While riding with the rollerblades on Tuesday, I was looking for cranes feeding on the fields but found instead this common kestrel in the sky.

Also known as the European kestrel, this bird is part of the falcon family Falconidae and is widespread across Europe, Asia, and Africa.

It wasn’t easy to snap this bird in-flight, especially not with a zoom lens that has a broken auto-focus and forced me to usual the manual one. But I’m happy with my result.

Back down onto the earth, I did see some cranes feeding in the distance. This was Wednesday.
