Open Your Mind, Change Your Reality

The art of choosing the life we want to live

Nothing changes, right? Society keeps broken; we keep lacking clarity, stuck with the same insecurities. The good news is, that's not true. Technically, the only thing we can count on is for change to be constant. The tricky thing would, in fact, to keep things just as they are.

Sounds weird? If so, how do we manage to "keep all the same?"

Here is the thing: at any second there’s nothing but now. That means that after this second there’s nothing but an unlimited potentiality. Our future hasn't been created, yet it is made of all the actions we are about to take.

What happens is that we alter the endless potentiality in our lives by making a choice, and we often choose to take a step similar to the one we had just taken before. Surprise surprise, drastically different results don't materialize.

Every time we make choices we alter our reality. Or rather, we create reality. Our experience of life is shaped moment by moment, according to the ways we act and respond to life. We are maybe not happy with our work life, but we keep with it, work on weekends, without ever taking time to contemplate what the hell we are doing with our lives.

Or it might be that we feel upset, and we choose between feeling sorry for ourselves in bed eating a gallon of ice cream without telling us a single loving word, and a walk in the woods. Even before doing any of these actions, the process of choosing one of them already comes loaded with self-talks and personal narratives. And each of these choices will transform our sadness and self-image in a different way.

Every decision we take opens up a new path, a new possible direction. Our state of mind alters our experience of reality. What our choices are doing is defining the shape of the unlimited potentiality of the future. Through it, we constantly alter our experience of the world.

Mind you, there is not one world, but 7,5 billion ones.

That’s why one’s reality is so different from the other (all types of privilege situations left aside). We all see life differently. We allow social conditionings to impact us differently. We develop different self-talks. Finally, we allow all of these to impact our potential differently.

To live is to be the master of our reality through the choices we make. The master gets to choose how big or how small his/her life gets to be.

"Now is the only time. How we relate to it creates the future. In other words, if we’re going to be more cheerful in the future, it’s because of our aspiration and exertion to be cheerful in the present. What we do accumulates; the future is there result of what we do right now." Pema Chödrön

I know, it is overwhelming to think of every decision process like that. After all, we make way too many decisions in everyday life, mostly without much awareness. The result is, first, we take the path of least resistance- repeating older patterns. Second, we become so used to acting in such a way that we fear acting differently.

To take the role of master of our lives, we need to be fully present in our lives. That means to slow down, and pay more attention to what is going on. Here, now. Do less, but better. And then slow down even more. Pay even more attention. Adjust the course. Choose a few decisions that deeply matter and stop running away from them by being busy. Maybe where you eat lunch every day is not that relevant, comparing to the quality of your sexual life. Releasing energy and emotional space from what does not matter, and channel that same energy towards what matters.

This is nothing but utmost self-care and self-love. Self-acceptance, self-nurture. That is to stop running away from ourselves.

The point is: what are we choosing with our minds? How much life, creativity, beauty, purpose, and meaning are we willing to allow in?

Watch out your mind, your patterns, and your self-talk, and see how they are allowing you to abandon yourself.

”It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.” Seneca

Nothing says we are to take the path of least resistance. When we make decisions based on the status quo, on what is expected from us, “what will others think”, “I want to be looked up to, to be cool” we are by default giving our power away.

We let the outside decide for us.

If we want to change things past the path of least resistance, we take a different step. We alter the direction. We break the pattern. For that, we need to embrace our own power, which can only emerge when we are fully present.

”No trumpets sound when the important decisions of our life are made. Destiny is made known silently.” Agnes de Mill

Every choice we make, consciously or not, is done within us. The best way to alter our patterns is by clearing out our minds. Meditation, presence. Empty the mind, reset patterns.

Change your mind, change your life. Now you have a chance of changing the world.

If we learn to clear our minds we learn to clear our path. That is the basis of changing the future big time. Changing our lives and the world starts with clearing our minds of all the beliefs that are outdated. Reset. Leaving what no longer serves us behind.

Our life is going to change no matter what. Are we able to co-create it, to live the life we want to live, at a soul level?

Being the master of our lives is being the master of our minds, and not allow the mind to run the show. We listen to all the voices; our fears, our dreams, our guts, our minds, our hearts, and slowly don't allow the mind to overrun all the other voices. Little by little, we even get to dream more.

"It’s not about whether we have what it takes; it’s about whether we choose to pursue it." Seth Godin

We can complain of political corruption and power dynamics at the office as much as we want. As long as we don't denormalize dishonesty in everyday life and start talking openly to people when we feel something is off (instead of allowing things to go under the carpet), there is no eliminating these things.

When we accept something we don’t truly want, we give our power away.

Our life changes in full alignment when we take hold of our personal power. When we don’t give our power away to others, nor to the self-talk of our minds. It is up to us to embrace and stand tall in our power and be the master of our reality.

It’s our job to not be scared of our power, of ourselves. To be present with the choices that matter. The power to live in the way we want to live. In the way that we deserve to live.

The first step to change the world is to embrace our personal sovereignty. No one can take the weight of the world on their shoulder. However, everyone can take the weight of their own lives and self-imposed limitations. To add more self-love and to stop running away from the questions that really matter. To never ever ever again abandon oneself.

There is no changing things radically if we continue with our current patterns and keep giving our power away.

Intentional change comes moment by moment, with each decision we make to be our best friend, to not compromise with that which cannot be compromised.

Intentional change comes with using our power to draw lines.

Intentional change comes every time we don't abandon ourselves.
