Summary

The website content describes an interactive, collaborative storytelling experience titled "Ongoing Adventure: Run For Your Life," inspired by Lucy Dan 蛋小姐, where readers can choose how the narrative progresses after encountering a mysterious, animated envelope that prompts an escape from a pandemic-induced isolation.

Abstract

"Ongoing Adventure: Run For Your Life" is a unique, participatory fiction series that invites readers to engage with the story by making choices that dictate the protagonist's actions. The narrative begins with the protagonist recalling a dreamlike experience reminiscent of watching a psychedelic film, leading to an encounter with a strange, talking envelope that chases them out of their apartment. The protagonist, who has not ventured outside since the start of the pandemic, is faced with a decision to either retreat back inside, continue running away from home, or scream for help from neighbors. This chapter is part of a larger series that allows readers to submit their own continuations of the story, fostering a collaborative and dynamic storytelling environment.

Opinions

  • The story evokes a sense of surrealism and urgency, drawing parallels between the protagonist's dream and psychedelic cinema, suggesting a blend of reality and fantasy.
  • The envelope's transformation from an inanimate object to a living, speaking entity introduces an element of the supernatural, which could be interpreted as a metaphor for the protagonist's internal struggles or the external forces compelling them to break their isolation.
  • The protagonist's physical reaction to the envelope (e.g., being bitten and coated with a neon substance) and their labored breathing due to inactivity during the pandemic hint at themes of anxiety and the challenges of re-entering society after prolonged isolation.
  • The interactive nature of the story, with options provided for the reader to choose from, emphasizes the importance of personal choice and the impact of those choices on one's life path, especially during times of significant change or uncertainty.
  • The invitation for readers to contribute to the story with their own chapters encourages creativity and community engagement, reflecting a belief in the power of collaborative storytelling to connect individuals through shared experiences and imagination.

The odd sensation still wriggles through your bones as you recall your dream. Was it a dream? It vividly reminded you of the time you and a prepubescent friend snuck into the movie theatre and left trembling after watching Psychadelic Film.

The envelope stares at you. And just when you think of pushing it from the nightstand, it starts shouting. It screams your name and then other incomprehensible words deafen your ears. Your immediate response is to run.

Tripping over the tail on your onesie dragon pyjamas, you tumble out of bed, knocking over the nightstand. The envelope, still glowing and bellowing, wriggles up your leg. Kicking it off, you aim for the hallway.

Because you have moved only a few meters in months, breath is already labored. As you throw open the door to the apartment, you feel as though you have already sprinted alongside Usain Bolt, the Olympic crowd frenzied. The cheering sound is in fact the envelope, grabbing at your ankle.

Frozen, you stare for a few seconds outside of your door. A blur stares back.

You have not left your apartment since the pandemic was announced. What will it look like out there? Will it smell the same? Will Bob the hotdog vendor still be perched at the corner?

The envelope bites into your ankle and a gush of neon saliva-like substance coats your foot.
