You Take Nothing but Gail and a Nunchuk

You hang up the phone, the Nunchuk in your other hand. You throw the phone on the bed and haphazardly change into some outside clothing with one hand.
You walk towards the door, still holding the Nunchuk, and don your Mario mask. You’d been thinking about this over the past day, and if the Nunchuk doesn’t protect you, maybe the Super Star will grant you some temporary invincibility… or at least some kind of luck.
Much to your chagrin, the elevator seems to be broken. As you begrudgingly walk down the many flights of stairs, you suddenly realize why the delivery drivers have all been so grouchy lately.
When you finally reach the lobby, you see Gail’s Rav4 outside the front door, with Gail impatiently waiting for you. She must have been nearby or something, because her apartment is at least a 30-minute drive if the streets were devoid of other vehicles. Weird.
When you finally arrive at the park, you start to feel a little more nervous excitement.
6PM. Nobody there but you and Gail.
You look around. You’re a bit relieved, but also a bit disappointed. Then you see him.
There was a shadowy figure standing in the trees, and he was looking right at you. His eyes began to glow a vibrant red, like superheated metal. There was a deafening screech — as if someone learned how to make the sounds of fingernails on a chalkboard with their mouth, and decided to pump it through an amplifier — and the man began running towards you.
He was really, really fast. In just 2 seconds, he’d cleared half of a football field’s distance.
Gail was frozen in terror, or just hadn’t had enough time to react. You, on the other hand, instinctively pulled your hand out of your pocket. It was still holding the Nunchuk.
Without any thought, your thumb pushed the joystick to the left. The charging man was thrown from his course into a nearby tree.
You look down at the Nunchuk while the dark figure struggles to get up. You look up at the man, now back on his feet. He seems a little less certain about whatever he had been planning. You notice his outline seems to be rough and uneven, almost moving.
