Summary

The web content describes a narrative where the protagonist, feeling that something is amiss, decides to return to sleep to escape the strange synchronized humming, only to find the sound growing stronger and taking a familiar form.

Abstract

In the ongoing adventure story titled "The Melody," the protagonist is experiencing a disconcerting sense of unreality. Despite attempts to return to sleep, the character is haunted by an increasingly rhythmic and familiar humming emanating from a recycling bin. The humming intensifies rather than fading with sleep, suggesting a connection to a melody the protagonist once knew. The narrative presents the reader with options to engage with the story, such as singing the lyrics, playing the melody on a piano, or using Google search to identify the tune. Readers are also invited to contribute to the story by submitting the next chapter.

Opinions

  • The protagonist's perception of reality is questioned, implying that the boundary between dreams and wakefulness is blurred.
  • The narrative suggests that music can evoke strong memories and emotions, as the protagonist recognizes the humming as a once-familiar melody.
  • The story encourages reader interaction and investment by offering choices that could influence the protagonist's actions and by providing a platform for readers to submit their own continuations of the story.
  • The use of a recycling bin as the source of the humming introduces an element of the surreal, challenging the reader's expectations of ordinary objects.
  • The mention of Google as a tool to identify the melody reflects a modern approach to problem-solving and storytelling, integrating technology into the narrative experience.

Something is terribly off and the world just doesn’t seem right to you. Maybe you’ve just been up too long? Maybe you’re still dreaming?

That would explain all synchronized humming that was emanating from that recycling bin.

There’s only one way to un-dream and dream, right?

You decide to go right back to sleep.

You plop your body back into bed and try to close your eyes to go to sleep. But the swirling doesn’t stop. Instead of being just in the sky, you saw the swirling inside your eyelids.

Instead of slipping away into sleep, the humming was getting stronger, more rhythmic, something increasingly hard to ignore. It wasn’t unpleasant as construction might be during the summer, but it was insistent, like a cat determined to get your attention for no reason at all.

And quickly, you realized — you recognize the humming. It began to take form. You know this melody, or, at least, you used to.

What was it again? You can’t place it.

Options

👉 Try and sing the lyrics to it and let muscle memory take over. 👉 Get up to your piano keyboard and see if any of the scores you have there match it. 👉 Try and hum it into Google search and see if Google knows.
