Not Feeling Beautiful Right Now? This Piece is For You

An ode to all the women who don’t feel enough right now

We all have days when we feel ugly.

It’s a horrible feeling. To stare at the mirror and not feel a sense of beauty or love. To focus on the blemishes or wrinkles or not-enoughness.

The thing is, I know you’re beautiful. I really, really mean that, from the bottom of my heart.

Our Skin is Just a Shell

You house a beautiful soul within you. We all do.

I want you to take a moment and connect with that thought.

Can you picture your incredible soul?

Some might visualize a bright light within, but if that’s too ethereal, try this instead:

Place your hand on your heart.

Take a deep, nourishing breath.

Feel the warmth and lifeblood beating beneath you.

Connect to all the millions of cells and pathways and links that make up your incredible body.

Imagine everything that had to happen to bring you to this beautiful moment.

Remember, your body is just a vessel to house the gorgeous you, within. It’s your stunning soul that really makes you, you.

I’ve Been There Too

I’m turning a corner in my life.

For most of my life, I used to look far younger than my years. Although that might sound nice, it’s hard when you want to be taken seriously as a twenty-something but you only look fifteen.

Nowadays, I think I do look my age. I’m starting to see wrinkles form. My aging body is becoming more and more apparent.

It’s a tough thing to reconcile.

It’s in these moments when I don’t feel beautiful that these reminders really matter. Outer beauty is a cover-up. It’s only one small part of who you are.

There is so much more than what meets the eyes.

YOU are Beautiful

When people encounter you, they feel your soul. Whether or not you logically know it, you walk around with an energy and aura that signals who you really are.

It’s why we sometimes feel that we look better in person than in photographs. I certainly do.

Because the real you is that great and amazing. I mean it.

Listen, I know this message isn’t always easy to take in. Battling our doubts and fears takes time. It can feel like a never-ending journey.

But if today you don’t quite feel beautiful, I’m here to tell you you’re wrong. You are very beautiful, through and through.

It’s your inherent nature. It’s something that will never be tarnished or taken away from you. It doesn’t matter how many years or decades or gray hairs you accumulate.

Your soulful beauty is everlasting. Period.

With love, Megan
