No Eye Contact Let Me Disappear
When you speak to someone right in front of you, do they look in your eyes or direction or entertain every other option besides you? Are they down the hall in another room before you can breathe?
No obstruction in your eyes No masks No lies No wall to hide behind
I’m standing here Am I alone Holding in the tear No voice lost in the pain
I yell through your fog Throats a mess Treated less than a dog No words land on the target
My chance begins A few words escape You turn, and my head spins No breath or pause taken
Did I ever finish So many steps between us I see myself diminish No way you hear me now
Detours built Sound is absent Attention lost without guilt No more stories those words carried
I’m gone but can see you My eyes look different now A green and gold shimmer that grew No more disappearing when the world is hearing
Sit with me, and I’ll sit with you. Let’s listen and see each other in our words. Give others eye contact with complementary courtesy and respect.
