New Cave Owners Complain There Are Children’s Drawings Everywhere

Millennials leave their mark on a neglected cave

Jason and Mara, the founders of digitalpilgrams.io and the new owners of a cave in southern Spain, shared their story of bringing life back into an overlooked corner of the earth.

Jason: We fell in love with the cave during our Iberian adventure. It was just us and the cave, without any sign of life for miles. It’s the kind of place that makes you think about the bigger picture and your legacy.

Mara: So, of course, we decided to buy it (laugh). But after we moved in, we found children’s drawings everywhere.

Jason: We didn’t see the paintings when checking the place out. It’s pretty dark in here, as you can see. Otherwise, we might have knocked a couple of thousands off from the 2 million price tag.

Mara: I don’t want to pass judgment on other people’s parenting, but you get the sense that there weren’t many boundaries set here.

Jason: I guess the kids must have been really into animals. Maybe they will become farmers one day, but probably not artists (wink).

Mara: And once we saw the painting, we realized it was everywhere.

Jason: It took us weeks to completely get rid of it. The parts we couldn’t wash off, we had to sand down.

Mara: But it’s really coming together now. Very minimalist, just like us, but we are also planning to put some indigenous sculptures in the middle.

Jason: Yes. We want to give the place the respect it deserves.

For anyone interested to see the cave in person, the couple promised it would be available on Airbnb by next spring.
